Re: Is Aion worth it? said by Shatter:said by Nightfall:said by Shatter:I seriously doubt there will be much lag under heavy load. Typical FPS for me is 150-200 range, the most Ive had on screen was about 50 people(in Pandemonium) and I was still running high FPS with no lag even then and considering that I did this all on highest settings. I have yet to hear of a single person complain about video lag in PvP, or ever with Aion actually I am not sold on that until I see the game. Warhammer could have hundreds of people and you could have serious lag in some keep areas. I am not saying that Aion will have that problem, but I would like to see what that kind of thing will be like. I play WHO and I find it nowhere near in comparison to Aion. Yeah WHO has horrible lag especially in high populated areas like a Fort, and thats on Fastest Framerate settings. It crawls to about 4FPS at times. Now you know why I am questioning what the 200 player combat is going to be like in Aion. Yes, they are different, but how will Aion respond in terms of lag?
I am just asking the question here.....and until we see a large batter of epic nature, we won't be able to answer it. Just like when WAR was in beta, no one could see those problems until release. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

Shatter join:2006-07-24 Waterford, MI | reply to Nightfall Yeah you're right and I cant argue that, but based on what I see in beta vs WHO I have confidence that Aion will likely stand up much better in a large PvP environment. Not to mention that these are the same developers of Lineage 2 and they likely have their coding worked out for larger scale RvR, they have had years to get it right. True cant confirm it but Im confident it will run well under high stress conditions |

Jaghar join:2001-01-30 Painesville, OH | reply to Nightfall I've been playing the beta. I can't really speak of the lag issue because I haven't been in any areas of a concentrated heavy population.
However there is one issue that concerns me regarding the leveling of characters. So far it seems that each side has one starting area. So if you level one character, you'll have to repeat the same quests over again for every other character on the same side. That's always been boring to me and it's one thing that WHO and even DAoC addressed. In those two games I can level up different characters on the same side and there are many options to keep it from getting too boring.
The Aion quests aren't any better than any other MMO I've played, so repeating them over and over doesn't sound like any fun at all. I still plan on playing for at least a month because it does seem interesting. -- We will always be much more human than we wish to be. |

I just couldn't stomach leveling to level 10 all over again on the same faction. Its the same darn quests.
That being said, if there was a way you could PVP sooner, I would be more open to the idea. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

Shatter join:2006-07-24 Waterford, MI | reply to Nightfall I believe it was announced today that dmg in PvP is reduced in patch 1.5 by 15%, no change to healing. Also that you can master 2 professions now as well. OB will be patch 1.5 and they will announce next week the details |

firefoxPremium join:2000-12-03 San Jose, CA | reply to Nightfall I played in the CB5 and CB6. I got two toons to lvl 22 each. I spent quite a bit of time Friday night, all Saturday, and all Sunday for both CBs (sleep, eat, bathroom breaks spattered here and there).
I actually started PVPing at lvl 20 because of the rifts. I got to PVP in 1v1, 3v?, and ?v? (basically large numbers of players that I failed to count). The aspect I like about the PVP in this game is that you grind/PVE in the same area you PVP. If someone from another faction sees you, they can attack you while you're beating on a mob and vice versa. This is the kind of MMO PVP I like - no flagging systems, no waiting for someone to turn red, no waiting for instance PVP matches, if they are from the other faction, kill them and defend your XP area or be killed. I'm sure this is more pronounced as we get higher in levels and grind in the higher level zones.
I also tried out the same faction PVP by issuing a Duel Challenge. That's quite fun in it's own way. -- "The real 'smart' people are successful because they make sure everyone else remains stupid and ignorant." -Anonymous |

| That assassin in that video is really bad, IMO, and in general that group of asmos are pretty bad as well, with the lack of coordination shown there. Only reason they came out on top is because they had about twice as many people. -- Windows XP Pro SP3 / Windows 7 64bit RC|AMD Phenom X3 8650|Asus M3N72-D Motherboard|4GB Patriot PC2-8500 1066MHz RAM|EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB Ram Superclock Edition |

this is almost as bad as the time in L2 we ally-warred with almost 1/2 my server and we'd forget and click their stores and attack them and then get pwned by the guards |

| reply to Nightfall How much grinding is there?
I have been playing EVE Online for 4 years almost now, SWG 2 years before that. The only MMO I tried since EVE was AoC and I thought it utterly sucked.... I thought it was terrible.
I don't mind grinding a bit, I did enjoy it in SWG... Aion looks pretty great, I could use a change of scenery. |

| reply to Nightfall Just a note to those trying to play the OB this week...good luck. NCSoft really screwed up on their upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5. Yeah yeah, I know. It's a beta. However, this close to release and the massive issues they're experiencing now is not a good indicator for launch.
Was fine for all of the closed betas. They upgrade to 1.5 for open beta and I've yet to be able to get in on 2 clients / 2 OSes and from reading the beta boards it appears quite a number of others are also having problems. Mainly GameGuard related. -- Windows XP Pro SP3 / Windows 7 64bit RC|AMD Phenom X3 8650|Asus M3N72-D Motherboard|4GB Patriot PC2-8500 1066MHz RAM|EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB Ram Superclock Edition |

1 edit | Well, I'm disabling GameGuard now to play. Hate to do it because dunno if I'll get banned for it (doesn't matter though as it's only the preorder code being used for the betas. Once I get my box from GameStop I can just create a new account and put in the code from the CD. Maybe they'll have the issues fixed by then and I won't have to do this). Besides, if it comes down to it, I can always play the China version. Lag isn't much of an issue with it so far and I've got about 450 hours of paid time left there. -- Windows XP Pro SP3 / Windows 7 64bit RC|AMD Phenom X3 8650|Asus M3N72-D Motherboard|4GB Patriot PC2-8500 1066MHz RAM|EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB Ram Superclock Edition |

| reply to Nightfall I got the game and played 3 hours so far
Pros -Beautiful graphics -Good FPS -Superb character customization
Cons -Terrible lag... 1000ms+ ping, I'm East coast, and apparently all the US servers are on the east cost too. Terrible -Gameguard had my game crash every 30 minutes -Did I mention the horrible lag
The lag made it almost unbearable to play, but because it's so beautiful, I sticked to it. Having only played EVE in the past 4 years, and since it's quite a complex game, it has less morons than I assume WOW has... I am flabbergasted at the amount of shit being said in the chat room.
They really should make servers for adults only where proof of age is required or something... I can't stand the kiddies. |
