As a quick fix remedy I connected a Netgear WGT624v4 wireless router to the modem and it correctly acquires a LAN address from the Be* modem.

When i plug my PC into the Netgear router, it correctly acquires IP address/config but i cannot surf the net. I can ping websites (even those i have never been to before so no funny DNS caching) and see that DNS resolution is working, but my HTTP traffic doesn't appear to come back.
