Daisy chain modem & router

anon : I've had a Be* modem (SpeedTouch 780) for the last 4 years whose Wireless internet has just stopped working. As a quick fix remedy I connected a Netgear WGT624v4 wireless router to the modem and it correctly acquires a LAN address from the Be* modem.

When i plug my PC into the Netgear router, it correctly acquires IP address/config but i cannot surf the net. I can ping websites (even those i have never been to before so no funny DNS caching) and see that DNS resolution is working, but my HTTP traffic doesn't appear to come back.

Does anyone have any advice on whether what i'm trying to do is possible (daisy chaining a wireless router to an ADSL modem), or how to resolve my problem?
