| [DIRECTV] DIRECTV coverage change in Washington DC area
The Washington DC area public television station is WETA. With the advent of HD, they split into four channels, one for non-HD content, one for HD content, one for children's programming, one for 'creative' programming.
DIRECTV has only carried one WETA channel - they have until recently chosen to broadcast non-HD during the day and HD at night. Which worked fine for me, as there isn't much HD content during the day. Recently, they decided to carry only the HD channel. So all the non-HD shows I liked are unavailable to me.
When they say they're going to carry local programming, aren't they obligated to carry all of the local public station's offerings? Comcast carries all four. FIOS carries all four. If I lived closer to the station, I could get all four on the airwaves.
Any suggestions? DIRECTV says this is a final decision, but I think it's a poor one. I'm going to have to check out switching to Comcast or Verizon FIOS. |

| I'm in the NYC area, and DirecTV only carries one HD channel per station. I wish they carried all of them. Eventually the government may mandate it. Until then, I guess we are stuck. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

| Who in the government is it worth writing to? The FCC? I was thinking of starting with the local Consumer Affairs department for suggestions.
I just think when they say that they provide local channels, it's misleading. They carry 1/4 of the content of PBS. |

| I'd start by calling DirecTV. They should know you want these stations. After that I guess you could call the FCC and ask where to write. One of the advantage of the digital switch has been multiple channels per station, unfortunately satellite providers still provide only one. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |
