| [ PVP] 3.2 DK PvP D/W Spec...
Ever since I hit 80 with my DK, I tried many PvP specs and found my favorite. Frost PvP spec. Lots of cc, lots of dmg reduction, Lichborne, and nice crits from an attack that can't be dodged, blocked or parried (FS). Now however, FS has been nerfed in 3.2, since it can now be dodged, blocked and parried. At first i was pissed, thinking of how awesome this attack was against Prot warrior, rogues, etc. But the more o think about it, the more i accept it. Mainly because of the new frost talent, Threat of Tharrsarian, (i think that's what it's called anyway) which causes your Death Strikes, Obliterates, Plague Strikes, Blood Strikes and Frost Strikes have a 30/60/100% chance to also deal damage with your off-hand weapon. If this could not be dodge, blocked or parried, it would be total annihilation for some classes.
So my question is, has anyone tried Frost PvP with PvP gear on? If so, how did you do against other classes?

| I've been spending time with my main so I 've only done about two hours of pvp with my DW Frost DK. I'm not seeing quite as many big numbers as I did with the big 2h weapon, but I can just keep hammering all day and it's really hard for anyone but a mage to get away. I actually took out a rogue and pally team by myself after eating both kidney punch and HOJ to start the fight.
Like I said, though, my experience is a little limited so the competition may have just been awful. -- It's a trick. Get an axe. - Ash |

Just kidding.
Seriously though, while I haven't tried DW Frost for pvp, I do know the name of the pvp game is burst. 2-handers = burst. Stick with big slow 2-handers for pvp. -- Warrior definition of stealth: Kill anything that moves! »wheresmedrink.wordpress.com |

| That has been my PvP spec for a long time (2hander Frost). I find it really nice with all the huge crits (8k obliterates, 7k frost strikes) with all PvP gear on. (Hateful and deadly)
I started PvPing when i first hit 80 with crafted LvL 78 resil gear. So i went frost to decrease the dmg taken since i had horrible gear. I'm still the same spec now with much better gear, and thinking of trying blood pvp for the heals and extra physical dmg... |

1 edit | reply to MrAwesome My dk is for PvP only and I was in frost 2h pvp spec. After the 3.2 patch. The 2h frost is not as good as 3.1 anymore. I am using DW spec now.
Here is the PvP DW spec (0/53/18):
Since the build has Epidemic which increase the duration of Frost fever by 6 sec, you don't need glyph of howling blast to reapply frost fever.
Use blood presence and a slow-slow 1h weapon. The easily and cheapest way to start is to get 50 Argent Tournament Champion's Seals to get two 1h epic mace - Grimhorn_Crusher. Put Fallen Crusader on Main hand and Razorice on off hand. If you couldn't get the wowhead from work, here is the spec summary:
Blood (0 points) None
Frost (53 points) Improved Icy Touch - Rank 3/3 Your Icy Touch does an additional 15% damage and your Frost Fever reduces melee and ranged attack speed by an additional 6%.
Runic Power Mastery - Rank 2/2 Increases your maximum Runic Power by 30.
Black Ice - Rank 5/5 Increases your Frost and Shadow damage by 10%.
Nerves of Cold Steel - Rank 3/3 Increases your chance to hit with one-handed melee weapons by 3% and increases the damage done by your offhand weapon by 15%.
Lichborne - Rank 1/1 Draw upon unholy energy to become undead for 10 sec. While undead, you are immune to Charm, Fear and Sleep effects.
Annihilation - Rank 3/3 Increases the critical strike chance of your melee special abilities by 3%. In addition, there is a 100% chance that your Obliterate will do its damage without consuming diseases.
Killing Machine - Rank 5/5 Your melee attacks have a chance to make your next Icy Touch, Howling Blast or Frost Strike a critical strike. Effect occurs more often than Killing Machine (Rank 4).
Chill of the Grave - Rank 2/2 Your Chains of Ice, Howling Blast, Icy Touch and Obliterate generate 5 additional runic power.
Endless Winter - Rank 2/2 Your Chains of Ice has a 100% chance to cause Frost Fever and the cost of your Mind Freeze is reduced to no runic power.
Glacier Rot - Rank 3/3 Diseased enemies take 20% more damage from your Icy Touch, Howling Blast and Frost Strike.
Deathchill - Rank 1/1 When activated, makes your next Icy Touch, Howling Blast, Frost Strike or Obliterate a critical hit if used within 30 sec.
Merciless Combat - Rank 2/2 Your Icy Touch, Howling Blast, Obliterate and Frost Strike do an additional 12% damage when striking targets with less than 35% health.
Rime - Rank 3/3 Increases the critical strike chance of your Icy Touch and Obliterate by 15% and casting Obliterate has a 15% chance to reset the cooldown on Howling Blast and cause your next Howling Blast to consume no runes.
Hungering Cold - Rank 1/1 Purges the earth around the Death Knight of all heat. Enemies within 10 yards are trapped in ice, preventing them from performing any action for 10 sec and infecting them with Frost Fever. Enemies are considered Frozen, but any damage other than diseases will break the ice.
Threat of Thassarian - Rank 3/3 When dual-wielding, your Death Strikes, Obliterates, Plague Strikes, Blood Strikes and Frost Strikes have a 100% chance to also deal damage with your off-hand weapon.
Blood of the North - Rank 3/3 Increases Blood Strike and Frost Strike damage by 10%. In addition, whenever you hit with Blood Strike or Pestilence there is a 100% chance that the Blood Rune will become a Death Rune when it activates. Death Runes count as a Blood, Frost or Unholy Rune.
Unbreakable Armor - Rank 1/1 Reinforces your armor with a thick coat of ice, reducing damage from all attacks by [5 * AR * 0.01] and increasing your Strength by 25% for 20 sec. The amount of damage reduced increases as your armor increases.
Frost Strike - Rank 1/1 Instantly strike the enemy, causing 55% weapon damage plus 137.5 as Frost damage.
Guile of Gorefiend - Rank 3/3 Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your Blood Strike, Frost Strike, Howling Blast and Obliterate abilities by 45%, and increases the duration of your Icebound Fortitude by 6 secs.
Tundra Stalker - Rank 5/5 Your spells and abilities deal 15% more damage to targets infected with Frost Fever. Also increases your expertise by 5.
Howling Blast - Rank 1/1 Blast the target with a frigid wind dealing 518 to 562 Frost damage to all enemies within 10 yards.

Necrosis - Rank 5/5 Your auto attacks deal an additional 20% Shadow damage.
Blood-Caked Blade - Rank 3/3 Your auto attacks have a 30% chance to cause a Blood-Caked Strike, which hits for 25% weapon damage plus 12.5% for each of your diseases on the target.
Glyphs
Glyph of Frost Strike (Major Glyph) Reduces the cost of your Frost Strike by 8 Runic Power.
Glyph of Obliterate (Major Glyph) Increases the damage of your Obliterate ability by 20%.
Glyph of Icy Touch (Major Glyph) Your Icy Touch generates 10 additional runic power.
Glyph of Pestilence (Minor Glyph) Increases the radius of your Pestilence effect by 5 yards.

1 edit | reply to awesome said by awesome :Yeah but how does it perform? You need to get your hit cap to 9% and ArP gears and magic number for ArP is 98 or something. I forgot. OB is now hit harder in 3.2 patch. That's why the Unholy spec most people don't put a point in Scourge Strike. They use OB instead.
If you didn't meet the above reqirement, you will be ok for clothies but you will not able to kill plate wearer fast enough.

| reply to MrAwesome All I know is that the nerfs mean that my rogue actually has a good chance to kill even frost DKs now, which is nice. In BGs I now target DKs and palladins every chance I get- revenge is sweet.
I still reserve the right to sneak into WG and sap them mercilessly, however. |

DW PvE spec '» www.wowhead.com/?talent#jZG0exAb···AofM0hxc' Unless something changed with the patch that I'm not aware of, isn't the pvp hit cap 5%? Pve is 9%, I believe. Since the thread is about pvp, I think you may have misplaced your pve build and advice unless there are special "plate wearer avoidance" rules that apply only to DKs. Honestly, I have very little experience with DKs, so if there are special rules that apply, I would be unaware. But if there were, I'd think DKs would be complaining about it in the pvp forums and I'm not seeing those posts. |

| reply to Mahmoud2 said by Mahmoud2 :said by Alexoi :Exactly. I have a macro for that. #showtooltip Lichborne /cast !Lichborne; /cast [target=player] Death Coil Is the ! at the beginning of Lichbourne a typo or does that do something for the macro? The ! is actually for abilities that toggle on/off... A good example would be Blood/Unholy/Frost presence... you can toggle those on or off.
You would use the ! in a situation where; if an ability is already toggled ON, and you don't want it to toggle OFF. I think the most practical example would be for a Hunter..
/cast !Aspect of the Dragonhawk /cast Hunter's Mark
In this case, if AoD is already toggled on, the ! will prevent it from being toggled off and Hunter's Mark will get be cast.
So, in the Lichborne example above, the ! actually does nothing sice Lichborne isn't an ability that toggles on/off.
All that being said... I think ! was changed a few patches back.. Before, if an ability was on CD, the ! would skip whatever you were trying to cast and just go to the next line, and in that case, the !Lichborne would be correct since Lichborne would be "skipped" if it were on CD and Death Coil would be cast. I don't think this is the case anymore though.
IMO, Blizz stripped the "skip abilities on CD" usability of ! in order to prevent people from setting up one giant spammable macro that will handle entire rotations.
All of this is based on my limited experiance using macros as I have not actually looked at LUA documentation. To anyone "in the know" please correct me where I am wrong (and provide LUA documentation if possible) as I would like to know myself. |

| A great explanation is with DK abilities....
/cast Death Coil /cast !Runic Strike
Whenever Runic Strike is proc'd by a dodge or parry it will cast that AND a DC. If RP is available for only one, it will cast the RS, I believe. -- "One can lead a child to knowledge, but one cannot make him think."

| reply to MrAwesome Awesome! I've learned a lot from this thread so far. I think this has been the most informative thread since Archivis' diseaseless blood spec thread. It convinced me to go home last night and start running my dk again. I hadn't touched that char for months. Ran it up to 62 right away when the xpac came out but got bored with it and shelved it. Last night I gained a level and a half just running AV alone.
So how do you start a pvp fight as a dw dk? What would be a standard pvp rotation? I know you've got to remain flexible and be ready to change things up at a moments notice (unlike pve), but there should be a standard set of opening moves for a clothie or a plate wearer (platie?). Last night I would use IT - PS - Howling - FS til dead (usually me, but sometimes them). |
