machpost : Somebody with more experience in the matter can probably elaborate, but I believe what you need to do is tell them you want to cancel, and you will then be transferred to someone in retention who has the authority to work with you on pricing.

I'm also seemingly being way overcharged compared to what a new customer would pay and plan to do the same thing soon.

Edit: Here's the previous discussion: »[Other] Good deal from RCN / Northampton, PA

[Need Info] Chicago - Equipment charges

anon : So for the most part i've been a satisfied RCN customer, at least with my services (cable and internet), but more recently i'm becoming discouraged over my bills.

I started out at $101 a month, which was $20 off the regular price according to RCN. Also since then the prices went up a bit, around $7 here or so again according to RCN. So how is my bill now $145 a month?

Unfortunately I get my monthly bill automatically deducted from my checking account and havent looked at it in over a year, i'll take the blame for that one, but two things on my bill are really frustrating me.

For one, when Chicago got switched to digital it specifically said in their flyers and on their website that we get one free basic digital converter box for free. Turns out they have been charging me $3.95 a month every month since I got it.
Also directly on their website it says that an HD DVR is $14.95 a month ($17.95 for each additional »www.rcn.com/chicago/digital-cabl···quipment) and again they have been charging me $17.95 since day one, and I only have one box. They told me that that was the price when I signed up and the new price (even though not a promo) was only available to new customers.

I'm glad to see that RCN will not hesitate to charge people when their prices go up but will not honor new prices if they are lower even if it's a standard price and not a promo.

I have called in multiple times to the standard brainless person reading off pre-designated responses it seems and in each case they continue to tell me that there is nothing they can do about past charges and that they were most likely "promos" that have now expired, of which I know not to be true.

I know its trivial to argue over $7 a month but it adds up and its the principle of it that is really frustrating me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be able to do here?

Thanks
