I am looking forward to becoming a PP customer. I am a Callvantage refugee and liked the feature set and reviews. I placed the order on 7/27 and received a notification for an activation date on 8/3/09. Tomorrow is my Activation date and I have yet to receive the TA, I did chat with some one online named Jim who said it was being mailed out yesterday. I have gotten bad TA's in the past and I would have been a bit happier if it arrived a few days ahead of time to set up. I did disconnect by accident while talking to Jim and I apologize to him if he reads this, I was not trying to be rude. I hope all goes well and the TA arrives on time. Also I have gotten no email at all from AT&T about a disconnect date, they did just charge me for another month of service yesterday but I know not to contact them as it could mess the whole thing up. Looking forward to being a happy camper with PP.Is there a way to import a CSV phone book file to PP? |

1 edit | The TA arrived today and all went well. The call quality is great and my phone is even accepting inbound calls before the midnight deadline for the port to kick in. The only thing I cant use yet is the voice mail, after dialing *21 it asks for me to enter my mail box number, I will try it tomorrow. So far a very happy camper. |

1 edit | All is good thanks to Matt who couldn't be more on top of things. Sometimes I hear a bit of static on the dial tone but none when talking. My Ta is set up behind my router. Though I have port forwarding set up, I put the TA in the DMZ and yes the TA is plugged directly into the wall. The TA is set up properly with static IP and all other settings as suggested from the help files online. I have to play with my set up a little more and anytime that I have gotten a new TA, I have had to tweak settings at first. I will get it and am almost there. |

| "Sometimes I hear a bit of static on the dial tone but none when talking." It is just the nature of cheap mass produced electronics. I'll take care of it for 1k dollars for ya? I noticed also but did not bother writing about it. I usually pretty picky but damn some people either are really picky or have to much time on their hands, lol. Good thing to point out though because God forbid someone be really anal and send the Grandstream back to PhonePower over it.
Careful not to tweak to much? Matt does not need anything more borked. I think I caused him to drink over my last problems which were very tough to diagnose. Take Care my friend and glad all is well in the city. |

I really hope that PP keeps up the good service for us. Otherwise you will bring some Heater(s) from the big city and come after me, lol. |

If your router is working properly, you shouldn't need DMZ or any port forwarding. If you have trouble on incoming (NAT association timed out), try forwarding UDP port 5060 (or whatever the Grandstream uses for local SIP port).
Just for laughs, I took a look at Zerocool's file, hoping that I could recognize the trouble and perhaps Grandstream could fix the bug. Unfortunately, I could not recognize a pattern -- the clicks are often 100 ms apart, but the phase sometimes jumps and the amplitude varies, apparently at random. It really does seem like static! Here is a half-assed attempt at filtering out the hum, fundamentals, and a few of the larger IM products. Can anyone make sense of it? |

| My standard when installing a new TA is to either hook it up directly to the modem or DMZ it in the router, once that I know that all works good I then use port forwarding, its just the precaution that I take to make sure all works right at the start. It eliminates any question about if it is router problem an ISP problem or other. I have all port forwarding and the TA set up properly. |

Right on, I agree with ya dude To bad everyone did not have your way of reasoning. |

Try having them turn down the volume on the ATA (many people think it's too loud anyway). Ours made a loud and continuous clicking on the dialtone of our new AT&T DECT phones. Now, it's just a faint static if you listen hard for it.
BTW, why use the dialtone at all unless you are blind? With new phones, all you do is hit Off/Clear or DIR to light up the screen and you can SEE if you are online. Then, just punch in the number or first letter of the person's name and hit Phone, just like a cellphone! |
