1 edit | reply to terk I don't know if this is the case for Shaw, but several other cable/satellite companies are raising rates to pass on the charges for local programming. It's money they are being charged by the local stations, and the cable/satellite companies are just passing the surcharge on to subscribers.
Again, not sure if this is why Shaw's rates are raising - I haven't bothered to read any notice of increase from Shaw. As much as I'd rather have the $24 or $36/year, in the grand scheme of things, what's another couple of bucks on top of an already high bill? From the sound of it most major providers will be passing this on to subscribers, as was promised during the ad blitzes a few months ago.
Edit: Seems to be confirmed, at least part of the increase, from Shaw's website: »www.shaw.ca/en-ca/AboutShaw/CRTC···8A568S25 |

Bell's boxes (and probably Telus') are identical to the ones sold by Dish Network, too. |

Telus is reselling Bell's service, everything is identical, including choices of programming, the satellite feed, receivers, etc.
The only similarities between Bell and DISH is that Bell buys similar models of receivers from Echostar, which also is sourced by DISH. But not all DISH receivers are available for Bell.
The satellites are different, on different positions, and the feeds are very different. I don't know how you mean they are piggyback.
StarChoice is also not using DirecTV. The receivers are incompatible (even the hardware). The feeds are different, and the satellites are different.
Your belief is not the fact, but you can continue to believe what you want, just don't try to put them as facts to others / on the forum. |

| reply to terk Starchoice, aka Shaw direct, blows and you guys know it. The whole user interface blows big time. At least with Telus satellite you have trained installers putting the sat runs in and not some hack. These guys are trade qualified journeyman telecommunications technicians that are paid by the hour to do a quality job. Not some hack contractor that gets paid per job and will wreck the side of your house to install cable just to get in and out as quick as you can. My Telus Sat install took a few hours but everything was hidden out of sight.
IPTV from telus is cheap and better than anything Shaw is providing. They are spending $500 million in BC alone to pump this out to customers. All I see Shaw doing is raising peoples bills. |

| reply to terk I know I just switched to Telus TV and Internet.
Internet was 20 bucks (Living in an apartment unit, so I got a deal). TV is $25 for basic, but added the channels I wanted only for another $12 bucks. Then they bundled the whole deal for an additional $5 off.
So: $20 + $25 + $12 - $5= $52 per month compared to Shaw's New Price of $86 bucks.
Oh, and the internet I had with shaw was "lite" (256kbps) and now with Telus' Highspeed I have 3.0.
The Telus guy was great installing the stuff, got a cool router with Network Storage support . The only drawback from the switch was Shaw saying I have to pay a cancellation fee, of $10 bucks. I am still ahead of the game! -- The views expressed herein are that of my own and not necessarily that of my employer or any associated entities. |
