Re: XBOX 360 using DMZ

I was more concerned about the XBOX allowing the traffic through to my network to be hacked because it was DMZ'd. With the latest Xbox Live Update, my chats have been solid with no disconnects.
Has never happened, to my knowledge.

If you want your x360 to be hacked put it on the DMZ, but keep in mind if you get hacked you complete void the warranty as Microsoft doesn't support stupid people!

They are very harsh when it comes their warranties.

I'm not aware of a single incident in which an Xbox 360 was hacked in any way shape or form in relation to having it open on the internet. Please provide at least a single link to back up your claim.

With as many sights the tell you to DMZ and the amount of people that do it I would expect to have heard of a single case of where a 360 was hacked over its network port. Not saying it not possible just think their would have been news by now.
The advise to DMZ or even to port forward the UPnP capable Xbox 360 reminds me of the advise others give on the WoW forum to put a PC in the DMZ and drop all firewalls.

It is just a bad idea that isn't necessary. If his firmware appropriately supports UPnP he should use it, if not, he may want to try a router which will work with UPnP correctly.

I've never seen that advice given in the official forums.

Personally i'd rather have an XBOX DMZ'd than enable UPnP. While UPnP does help the masses get their networking stuff working easily, I have no desire to let anything on my network simply open ports at will without my knowledge.

Here is an example thread - »My Router and the Blizzard Downloader

The problem is the Blizzard updater not working well with many routers.

I'm not pro or con network UPnP, it is dangerous, I make certain its disabled on my PC's. It does a great job at handling multiple game consoles on a single IP address in my experience.

Ah. That's not an 'Official Forum'. That's a DSLReports forum. The official forums are at »forums.worldofwarcraft.com

Glad I found this thread as I was going to pose a similar question. I am using DD-WRT, I have the Xbox set up a static IP address and that is in the DMZ.

Whenever I go to log in, it says I can't connect and need to run a network test. I run the test, it comes back fine, and then I can log in.

Any thoughts as to how I can keep from having to run the test each time?
