| IP traffic between Comcast and AT&T going through Dallas
Anybody know why data from a Comcast user in Atlanta is going through Dallas to get to a AT&T user in Atlanta?

Notice that from AT&T to Comcast it is also going through Nashville.
You would think the two largest ISPs in town could keep the traffic local for a major city like Atlanta.
Is this an anomaly of these two IP addresses or are other people seeing the same thing?

Looks like Comcast and AT&T don't peer with each outher but they both peer with as6453.net wand the closest peering point for them is in Dallas.
I am kinda surprised that they aren't peering in Atalanta, I see Comcast peers with Level 3 in Atlanta AT&T Network is probably under a different AS number thus the as6453 looks as good as an AT&T -> Level 3 route, but that's the problem with BGP. -- AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE @ 3.5Ghz(OC) | 4Gb Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7100 |

| reply to Automate While it is surprising they are not parallel peering on the local pop, it is even more surprising they are not parallel peering at all. But why would two unique competitors be reasonable about this anyways? |

| reply to Automate Well, I checked again and it is no longer going through Dallas. I am sure it was because of this post.
