AT&T U-Verse IPTV Pop Up Ads!!!

OMG, I was just watching TV (well, a recorded show) and an AD popped up asking me if I wanted to buy a freak'in pizza!!!

It told me to select some option if I wanted the pizza or to select dismiss if I did not.

I called customer service and the person I talked to told me I was the first person she had heard say that. She went and checked and said they are getting a few calls about it from others, but have no information on what is going on.

I asked her to register a complaint for me and she said she would and that all she could say is if it happens again to call back and see if they have more information.

AT&T LISTEN UP - if you are going to start doing this we will be CANCELING our service very promptly!!! This is absolutely ridiculous!!! We are paying for "TV" , *not* for pop up ADs!!!

Slightly unrelated, but we canceled our DVR service from direc tv, because non DVR models cant show ads in the guide, which is ture, and has been that way for years, Directvs loss...

I gave yahoo and SBC many many nasty calls when they started placing ads in the web mail sites (2007). When I signed up for SBC dsl (2003), I was promised by the rep and the website that sold it to me that I would "never" have any ads in my web mail.

I think its totally wrong any PAID service can place ads period, I pay for my email, you pay for your DVR, keep the calls up, ads like these are totally unacceptable PERIOD.

I just got th same ad. On the phone now. I thought I would come here t see if anyone else was getting them.

They sent me to tech support. I'll find out if there is a way to turn them off.

I'm not going to pay for a service with popup ads.

I think flooding them with calls every single time an ad pops up will (hopefully) give them the message that this is a stupid thing to be doing.

Since I was the first person the rep had heard complaining about this and that they did not have any information on it, I didn't even think to pursue asking them to turn it off - I am just so blinded with anger right now I am not even thinking straight.

Let us know what they tell you.

Oh, they also said it might be a test "in our area", well I am in OH and I see you are in AR - not the same "area"!

Level 2 tech said it was probably a one time thing. I told him I was seeing that people across the country were getting it. He tried to convince me it was a standard system info message too.

I told him it was unacceptable.

Oh god please don't let this come to the Columbus area. If it does I might have to switch to Time Warner.

I saw the same ad, ugh. It was in the middle of a recorded program that I as playing back, so I guess it shows up across all channels. I'm not happy at all.

I called, and was assured they had no idea how it happen, and has Tech support on it. Now if they aren't feeding me a bunch of shit, it shouldn't happen again.

And they also told me to hold the power button for about 6-7 secs so it can reset.. Try that out

I've never had that happen in the 19 months I have U-Verse.

Update
I just asked my wife since I've been outside for a bit. We did get the pop up. You guys aren't explaining correctly. It was a pop to upgrade to U300 or U400 and if you do than you get a free dominos pizza.

That is annoying and I didn't see it but it's coming from AT&T.

Please call AT&T (800-288-2020) and complain - complaint after complaint will be the only way they get the message that we do NOT want ads popping up on the TV.

Tech support didn't know about it because it was a marketing popup. Holding the reset button will do no good. I hope calling and complaining will. I just got on U-Verse 3 weeks ago and it's been pretty good, but this will make me drop the service in a heartbeat.

It was funny I was about to order Domino's and the message came out.
It said you can get a free large pizza and a 2 litter coke cola product by ordering Showtime or upgrading to u300.
It said to call u-verse and ask for "sales" mention the promo and they will give you a code to redeem at www.dominosoffer.com

If you go to www.dominosoffer.com it does say it's a legit offer but only for Showtime and there is no place for you to enter a code. To redeem they want 2 billing statements and they will mail you a coupon.

Also it said for more info click on "more info" but all that did was send me to channel 400.

I didn't see it either and wasn't as bothered by it... then. I'm trying to relax after work and everything is just going into chill mode but now that I think about it Yeah I don't like it one bit.

The ad for me was either to upgrade to u300 or Showtime (I think not HBO) and I would recieve a free Domino's Pizza, a Coke and possibly bread sticks but I don't really remember the bread. If you hit "more info" it took you to channel 400.

THIS is not acceptable.

This is only the 2nd popup message that I have received from AT&T in the 3 months that I have had the service. The 1st was after the Phase 2 update which was a reminder to check your aspect ratio and sound options.

The funny thing is that if some people were not made aware of this offer for free pizza and coke, they would probably post a complaint on the forum that they didn't know about the offer.

This is the first pop up ad I have seen in the 19 months I have had service. Having a pop up talking about an update is ok with me. Something like this is annoying. If they had a message box like comcast that would be fine as well.

Well this is crap - they better either stop it all-together provide an opt-out so you can select to NOT see the !@#$ ads at all.

Seeing popups about a firmware update is one thing, but ads trying to sell you something is completely UNACCEPTABLE!

We got this same crappy ad too in Raleigh, NC. It showed up right after I got home from work. The funny thing is that we already have U300/Showtime/Movie Package...so the ad was TOTALLY useless for this household.
