1 edit | Did something change with the network around here???
Because I just noticed this...
By "around here" I mean southwest Missouri. Usually I see between 400kbps - 750kbps, and now I'm seeing that. I'm definitely not complaining because that is AWESOME, but is that speed here to stay? |

| Me, too! I'm near Forsyth and service has typically been below 1 Mb/s. Here's what I got today...
Like you, I'm not complaining. Just wondering how long this might last.
Just noticed I need to update my system info. I dropped Hughes for Alltel a few weeks ago. -- XP Pro SP3|2gb + XP Home SP3|768mb + XP Pro|2.5gb HPMediaServer|LinkSys WRT54G|HN7000s SO|74W|1250MHz|Hughes |

1 edit | reply to johnny_r Eh, it didn't last. Sometimes it's more than 1mb/s, other times it's under.
That's what it's showing now, which is about average for my connection in my area. 4-5 bars of 1XEV which I don't think is Alltel service, I think I'm hitching a ride on Sprint service where I'm at because there is no Alltel EV tower within like 10+/- miles of my house, just a 1X tower down the road.
I wonder what it's going to be like once Verizon completes the takeover of this part of the network. Already know to expect a 5GB/month cap...
In the local newspaper last week, Sho-Me Power announced that in partnership with another company, they're applying for a hefty sized grant from the Government to do 2500miles or more of fiber optic lines to offer better internet to rural areas of Missouri. Since the Sho-Me plant is only 3 miles away, and the headquarters is in Marshfield city limits which is only 4-5 miles away...I'm guessing I'll be one of the lucky folks to get that internet in my area. Can't wait! |

| They seem to be having problems today. Everything was OK yesterday. I thought it was just me. I am serviced by a Rev A Alltel tower. I have my modem plugged into a router so can't give you a signal strength right now. My results are terrible. If this keeps up I may have to go back to Hughesnet!!! |

| reply to johnny_r Might want to check your prl, the latest non-divested is 40053 and some people are finding out they are getting kicked off of towers they though were Alltel but were actually Sprint. Also looks like you are down to 1x right now. It could also just be a tower problem. |

1 edit | I unplugged my modem from the router and as pioneer56 correctly diagnoses I am running at 1X. I have the 40052 PRL. Have looked on Corolada and Answerman's pages and that is the latest PRL that they have for download. Anyone have the 40053 that they can send me or point me to where I can download it? Thanks Jackie
P.S. Today's speedtest!!!
P.P.S Also, as an aside note, at one time we had two phone accounts (long story), one on Alltel and another on Sprint. Our Sprint phones were always in roam out here on the farm and the Alltel phones still would show Alltel and did not roam. I do not think that we have a Sprint tower anywhere near here. Have looked on their coverage map and were not in their coverage here. We are actually west of a small community named Sacville. Even Alltel's coverage stops at my backdoor!!!!! So whatever is going on is most likely due to Alltel and not Sprint. |

| reply to johnny_r Just talked to Alltel tech support and they are pushing 40053 to my modem. "Sir, do not unplug you modem from your computer for 24 hours. It should be taken care of by then." I know that it should not take that long to get it out to me. I guess they don't want us calling back and flooding their help desk when it does not work!!! |

1 edit | reply to johnny_r If you don't get it sent to you, I would do a manual activation and it should push the latest prl to you. I got 40053 this way and haven't seen it posted for downloading yet. About your pps, it is Verizon pulling Sprint roaming off of their network and since Alltel is owned by them the Alltel prl's are dropping Sprint roaming fast. |

| reply to johnny_r I'm in one of the last markets to be folded into Verizon, and the online billing changeover is October 16th. That said, Verizon must have a roaming agreement with Sprint. The Sprint tower is closer to my home than the two nearest Alltel towers and I noticed a drastic service reduction when Alltel's agreement with Sprint lapsed/was not renewed.
Lately, though, my speed is good. REALLY good.
If I can keep this I'll be very happy. |
