Re: [iO] We got a new IPG! Well I'd love to have some small games to play with during commercials. It would be nicer to play card games on a 42" TV then a 3" IPhone.
SARA is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to guides though. Perhaps they will go with NDS in the future since they already use NDS for their encryption scheme.
Tru2Way has to pave the way for better guides and UI's in the future as well. I'm not sure if there will be a SARA Tru2Way version (haven't seen one), but at least the java platform will give developers more flexibility to work with.
I haven't personally seen any operator use DSG yet. It would be nice to have that extra bandwidth pipe for interactive features.
One thing's for sure, you look at the SARA guide then look at Verizon's guide, and the choice is obvious. Verizon is the clear winner. If ANY cable company wants to compete for the up and coming Gen-Y user base, they will have to innovate, or be lost out to the competition. Gen-Y is much more critical of aesthetics, form & function then previous generations. And this is the up and coming generation of people who are just buying a house... and guess what? They are looking for entertainment and information. Whether that's Cablevision, Fios, DirecTV, Dish Network, or simply the internet video distribution model, these MSO's better shape up or loose out to new oppurtunities moving forward. |

JohnILMHollaPremium join:2003-03-15 Tuckahoe, NY | reply to mbernste They are really pushing this new "shortcuts" menu ... I actually just saw a commercial for it. Doctors in the OR and then the "shortcut" menu pops up and they all talk about it ... even though they only show the "weather" feature.
Does CV really think this is something worth advertising?
Well, duh, of course ... it's chock full of OnDemand and PPV purchase options, so of course they are going to promote it.
It's motto should be: "New 'shortcuts' for you to spend even more money on CableVisions - plus a mini forecast that was already available when you hit the guide menu."
I don't know why, but this new 'shortcuts' menu is really annoying me.... probably because it's almost a total waste, but CV is going to tout it as the second coming and use it as justification that they have good services like their LOVE of News12. |

TD join:2007-05-31 Brooklyn, NY | I quite disagree that the software update was useless.... They inadvertently fixed the bug that was driving me crazy. Now when I schedule my recordings by browsing the IPG by the theme or the title, it no longer kicks me back to the beginning of the list after every schedule! What a relief!
To hell with the shortcuts, I am now able again to record the programs the way I want |
