Am am researching the necessary bits and bobs for building a new pc. One issue that concerns me is the noise that any system will make (PC in living room). Do you guys know of any websites that provide information about the sound levels of components such as fans?
Any help would be appreciated.

| reply to JadUK Is this for a HTPC? Check out most any HTPC forums such as over here. There are variety of tutorials and recommendations on various components or methods of silencing things.
It basically comes down to three things: fast, quite, cheap, but you only get to pick two. You can build a decent HTPC that will play any HD content plus the typical video sites (hulu, netflix, etc) with a AMD 4850e, ITX or mATX mobo, and a fan-less powersupply. The CPU can be air cooled if you have a large enough heat sink or a slower fan can easily handle it too. The only other moving part is the hard drive and CD-ROM. The HD can be a SSD, but they are still too small and pricey. Cd-ROm...you'll have to just live with. |

example For example here is a $9 (free shipping) Scythe 500rpm (the lower the less noise) 120mm (the bigger the more air moves through) that happens to be rated at 7dBA: »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···35185056
I bought a Scythe from NewEgg (though another model - for about $12) and am very happy with it. -- »www.yboris.com |
