DMZplus mode

DMZplus mode seems to be working fine--my Check Point ZoneAlarm Z100G home router gets the public IP address 99.34.XX.XX assigned to it and all computers behind it are able to access the Internet (they use the 192.168.11.0/24 [Wired] and 192.168.250.0/24 [Wireless]).

However, I noticed that I'm not able to access the 2Wire at »192.168.1.254 or »gateway.2wire.net. Gateway.2wire.net still resolves properly too:

C:\>nslookup
Default Server: my.firewall
Address: 192.168.11.1

> gateway.2wire.net
Server: my.firewall
Address: 192.168.11.1

Name: gateway.2wire.net
Address: 192.168.1.254

>

Is this how DMZplus is supposed to work? Kills your access to 192.168.1.254? Makes semi-sense given you're no longer "behind" the 2Wire on the 192.168.1.254 network.

Typically, with standard networking setups, this would not work. However, since the 2wire is still processing and acting as a proxy for all traffic, it will work. My guess and obvious answer is your ZoneAlarm router is blocking it for whatever reason (actually good reason). Probably does not understand why a private ip would be on an outside network like that. Go over the options, or you may have to add a custom rule.

Your guess was excellent--except Check Point NGX Embedded software doesn't enforce anti-spoofing of the private IP addresses on the WAN interface--I think the full blown Check Point VPN-1 software does--I'll have to check when I get to work tomorrow.

Turns out it was Check Point SecuRemote VPN software on my computer. It wanted any traffic destined for 192.168.1.0/24 to be routed through a VPN tunnel via SecuRemote (because that's an internal subnet at work). SecurRemote enforces this even when the VPN tunnel is down. I shut down SecurRemote VPN client in in the task bar and bam! I can now acess »192.168.1.254 aka »gateway.2wire.net.

Thanks!
