Network Requires Personal Certificate

I am trying to help a friend setup his new router and modem.. The setup process went okay all except for my HP Ipaq.

When he tries to connect Via his Ipaq he get this message below....

“Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you.”

We have double and triple checked that my WPA security is correct (and even tried it without the security.) unfortunately nothing gets rid of this message.

I researched it a bit and found out that there was a certificate I could put on my IPAQ and make it known that it was okay but, I couldn't find where to get the certificate.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? (I have figured out that it isn't something with his modem/router though because he gets it when he tries to connect to other ATT Wifi in his neighborhood.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

either (1) the challenge you are getting is because you are choosing the wrong SSID/network, or (2) you have RADIUS authentication enabled in the client and/or w-router.

Another possibility is that the router is set to 802.11g only. See this discussion, which covers that possibility and gives some other suggestions....

Right, 802.1x is a form of network server based authentication, sometimes proxy'd to an access point/w-router. Home users wouldn't want 802.1x/RADIUS enabled, as a rule.
