SpeedStream 5200 (router) and Windows 7 compatibility ?

Hi,

I am preparing my PC for Windows 7 so I downloaded and ran Microsoft Windows 7 "Upgrade Advisor" and everything is fine except for my old (but reliable and working great) SpeedStream 5200 modem/router. The advice from upgrade advisor is to download and install the latest driver for my modem, so I googled it and it seems that the very latest is the one on this forum: Ver. 4.9.0.135 but after installing it, upgrade advisor tells that I still need to update the driver. Is there a newer driver version or I am doomed and will have to change my modem?

Thanks a lot

Are you using USB? The USB Driver is limited to Vista 32 bit as seen in this FAQ.

The Ethernet connection will work with *ANY* OS out there today and in the near future.

Thank you very much Doctor Olds!

Yes, I am connected via USB because I have my other computer, an iMac connected to the 5200 via Ethernet (very long cable because it is on another room) BUT I would like better to have my PC with windows XP or 7 connected via Erthernet. Is it possible to connect BOTH machines to the 5200 via Ethernet? maybe an adaptor?

Thanks again

A simple 10/100 Multi-port Switch is all that is needed to multiply the Ethernet port. They come in 5 port, 8 port, 12 port, 16 port and other larger sizes. The 5200 can support up to 253 PCs if you supply enough ports.

Just another question if I may Doctor Olds:

I have been shopping on the net for a 5 port switcher and I found out that almost all of them have the same physical configuration:

On the front, they have 5 10/100Mbps lights and on the back 5 RJ45 LAN jacks, so my question is:

do I connect the Computer´s RJ45 LAN jack to any of the 5 RJ45 LAN jacks on the back of the switcher and then I connect the 5200 to one of the remaining four and the Macintosh to anyone of the remaining three RJ45 LAN jacks on the switchers back?

I do not know if I make any sense, but I can not figure out any other setting.

Right now I have connected the 5200 USB to the computer and the Mac to the 5200´s RJ45 LAN Jack and both machines are connected to Internet and they see and share files with one another.

Thanks

Correct. It is very simple.
