Considering the huge cash grab this site is for the owner, it still amazes me how incompetent this person must be.

I'm guessing the person with the backup data is in jail, and the lower ranking site admin is waiting for him to be released (if that even happens at all in the next few years).

Thank you for the updates and everything, but I have a very basic question: What exactly happened to this single mythical person that can recover the data? Is he missing? Do you have contact with him? Is he out of the country? Is he incarcerated?

But no one has Come on lately who works at the site, and said yes we are still trying to bring it back..
We have not heard from anyone in a while.

So sad. I miss the forums... Guess I gotta try and move on for now. Dunno where else to go though...

Very sad that good old Demonoid is still down. It was by far my favourite source for torrent files, not in the least because of the fantastic community spirit! Gonna be tough (or even impossible) to find a worthy replacement

I do not wish to stop using BT. It is not just the program and the files involved but the memories and the "comfort-zone" pertaining to the whole process. Love going through forums and looking at what people are saying as well as having an opportunity to thank and comment the awesome uploaders. Just good 'ol fashioned BT for me.

Just checked the site and got this new message:

Maintenance

Edit: There are some rumors about the site shutting down for good and we starting a new tracker next year. the rumors are of course, lies. There are no plans of shutting down or creating another site.

And there is NO official twitter/facebook/any other web community page for Demonoid. There are a few around that were created by fans and have no link to the site or staff.
The parts of the site code that got deleted are being rewritten and should be ready soon. We are also working to try and minimise the data loss as much as possible.

The site will return as soon as possible, but there was a problem that caused data loss and the person who can help us get the data back is not able to help at this moment. The site will return when we can get his help

A loss of a some months worth of activity including registered users and torrent submissions is to be expected because the backup we are hoping to get back is not up to date, so please be prepared for it.

The vagueness of these messages are pissing me off. Particularly this constant reference to this "guy" not being available to rewrite code??? WTF? What company operates like that? How is it that only ONE human being is available to maintain a website??

yeah it does not make sense at all.. I think they do this stuff to rid members when they have too much :-/
