There is almost no movie that you can't find on one of these sites. think about the people who don't have a membership in Demonoid, they are a live!!

True, you can find almost any movie at any other site, but the worth of Demonoid is in the stuff you can find there that you can't find anywhere else. Most other sites place their emphasis on having the newest movies, games, and (hot chart) music, and base their ratios on that. But look for anything else and you're out of luck. Demonoid has a huge classical and world music listing, in addition to almost any other musical genre you could want. Their ebook and audiobook listing is better than any others. You want silent movies - they've got them. Foreign documentaries, ditto. And it goes on and on in other areas. It's the best organized site I've seen, and has a community that provides useful feedback. That's why people miss it so much when it goes down.

Im sorry but there is no other semi private sites like demonoid, if you want to find something long lost its there, most sites either have the newest stuff and rely on ratio, while other sites have very little and have fast speeds.

I like the community at demonoid, any where else are a bunch of jerks. (private sites)

And not every body has a T3 connection so i dont believe in ratio building to stay at a site, if some one can seed then they'll seed (unless hes a jerk) but if not who cares, sharing is caring in these times of need and instability...ever watch robin hood...we are all robin hoods...we give to the damm poor!

So no more bashing on demonoid, its a great site. End of story.

I'm definitely thumbs up for Demonoid too, found stuff here couldn't get anywhere else; rare music archives, banned literature, impossible to find applications and games no one has ever heard about, huge training resources for any field of study, e-books on any subject, and the list goes on and on. Little wonder why it's so popular. Been to many sites but always had to come back to get what I was looking for

Some people have mentioned in this thread that Demonoid should start enforcing ratio. This is something that has bothered me ever since I joined Demonoid. It comes down to simple mathematics. For every byte of data seeded, someone has to leach one byte. So, as long as you have people with ratios over 1.0 you will have to have people with ratios under 1.0. The only way everyone on the entire site could maintain a 1.0 ratio is for everyone to have exactly 1.0. I keep my ratio right at 1.0. It bothers me when i see people with higher ratios bitching because mine is only 1.0. After all, if they would download more, then the people with lower ratios could get theirs up as well. it is simple mathematics, anyone who doesn't understand really needs to go back to school.

when i first joined demonoid years and years ago they loosly enforced ratio

you could donate a small sum (like 10 bucks or something) to throttle your ratio to 1.0 for a month

i think thats pretty fair
it also makes them money
and it actually worked really well

Except that a torrent site is not a closed system. There will be new torrents, and there will be new users.

If Demonoid enforced an overall ratio of 1.0 it would improve the situation for everyone. Period.

Okay, so here's the deal.

On September 1, 2009, Torrentfreak reported that a few days of downtime was likely to be imminent, due to RAM and hard drive damage suffered by the servers during power outages. A statement from the website said, "We might have to shut down everything to fix and prevent further damage," and that it could be "days maybe, until we can change the power circuit." The website went offline to all regions on September 14, 2009, and is still down as of September 24th. A statement posted on the main page reads, "Maintenance: We will be back as soon as possible, but this will probably be a prolonged downtime. Thank you for your patience."

Also, yes, I believe that Demonoid should enforce the ratios. All you have to do to keep your ratio above 1 is keep seeding until you've uploaded at least as many bytes that you have downloaded. This theory that in order to have some people over 1 you'd have to have people UNDER 1 is totally wrong. I feel that Demonoid needs to be more careful to monitor upload/download ratios, as I have noticed discrepancies in the reporting system.

With my current speed, Demonoid works great as there are many seeders (for download) and leechers (for upload, to keep my ratio). I have pretome but my ratio there sucks because members are fewer hence lesser leechers.

I just wished they would add a little more info something like . Downtime is expected to be up to 30 days or 30 to 60 days but could be longer. This message will be updated every 2 weeks

Many of the torrent at demonoid are also listed at thepiratebay and all their trackers are dead for over a month now. But they still list the torrent and they have added httpxxx tracker.openbittorrent.com/announce
udpxxxtracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
to all the torrents.
xxx = :// to prevent hot link

I have added httpxxxtracker.openbittorrent.com/announce to all my demonoid torrents. I suggest that anyone reading this also add that tracker until demonoid trackers become active again.

I have even used httpxxxtracker.openbittorrent.com/announce to create a torrent file to upload data to a couple of friends I just emailed them the torrent file. it is an open tracker so torrent file doesn't need to be uploaded to a tracker site. It gets very busy at time and be be down once and a while for a few minutes or an hour or two. Just leave it active enable peer exchange and that should helps

I don't use the udp one.

enforcing ratio would make it much harder to keep a good ratio on demonoid, because it causes members to be more conservative in what they download. I've never been on another site where it's been as easy to keep a 2.0+ ratio; that's because people aren't focused on ratio requirements. It's also what makes demonoid the best, as well as having a nice search engine for those of us who care about weeding out low quality music etc.

Status

The site will return as soon as possible, but there was a problem that caused data loss and the person who can help us get the data back is not able to help at this moment. The site will return when we can get his help

A loss of a some months worth of activity including registered users and torrent submissions is to be expected because the backup we are hoping to get back is not up to date, so please be prepared for it
