wow...

so cable companies (and any "internet" company for that matter) wants to purchase the content to deliver.
they already own the method of delivery.
they will own the company owning the content (editorial control?).

ick. its beginning to look a lot like 1984 outside....

... are you asleep? There are/were plenty of networks owned by the "delivery method"... but if the dooms-day thinking works for ya, please continue.

.. and at last check, we're not talking about the government here - so I suppose your 1984 thing is all blown to hell huh?

from orwell himself:

He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.
when a country has a few organizations controlling the majority of the media, they have power to determine what occurs where. vested interests in the "media" will slowly divulge the information that they want - which may or may not be true. a monopolization of the media controls who is elected into government - especially with the advent of the 24-hour "news" cycle.

its only a matter of time....

I wonder. Do you remember what actually happened in 1984?

1984 was a movie about total government control.

1984 is the year that AT&T was divested of its ILEC, R&D, and manufacturing divisions. Divestiture was supervised by a Federal judge, in response to a U.S. Government antitrust suit. In the context of a discussion of AT&T and 1984, I can't imagine any connection with any movie at all.

The U.S. Government is definitely not in control of the telecom industry in this country, much less total control of it!
