cable modems problems

One of 4 rooms in the house will not work for internet cable through my modem. All other 3 rooms work with the cable modem/internet. We have changed the splitter in the attic which feeds 2 other rooms and 1 room goes directly outside. We have also changed the cable in the wall of that one room. This worked for 1 week then internet went out just in that ROOM. So, we changed the cable in the wall again. Works off and on then just quit working totally (only in that room).
I then put my computer in another room and works well (which i am on now). Couple of questions:
1. Is something shorting out that one room?
2. CAn something short out a cable cord for internet usage?
3. Do u think we have to change the splitter again?

Helpppppp. Called cable company once and cancel the service visit because it worked, but for only one week. Any suggestions or call the cable company again...really don't want to call them.
Thanks

When your cable modem is installed the signal is set up to be better on that line. Sometimes if you have a good enough signal at your house you can move the modem to other outlets and have no problems. But, if you have a lot of outlets or splitters then you can run into problems. If you want to have the modem in a different room then you need to run the line out to where the cable box is located (outside hopefully by your power meter) and connect it to the first splitter coming off the drop ( the line from the pole to your house). There probably will be a 2 -way connected before any other splitter and that's the old modem line.

Of course you could just call your local company and have them correct it for you.

+1 Modems can't be moved all willy nilly over the house. Modem needs to be on a dedicated line on the first splitter from the ground block.

You shouldnt be moving the modem from one outlet to another, it is designed to stay on the cable outlet it was installed on. Each tv should have its own line going all the way to the outside along with the modem on its own line to the outside, there shouldnt be any other splitters.
