Re: UPDATED news on the WNDR3700

I'm one of those guys with a dgl-4500 a1 with fw 1.21 who received an a2 with 1.12 from d-link. I'm not happy with with the a2 and have upgraded the fw to 1.16b3 and I am considering the wndr3700 as a replacement. I really want to hear from current owners about this netgear router.

I have a Dir-655 which I'm very disappointed with. I just use it as a router but I have a VoIP line and do some p2p downloading. It seems that anytime I run my P2P program my VoIP loses its connection.

Does anyone do p2p downloading with VoIP with the WNDR3700? Does it work or are there issues?

I've been having a problem with my voip phone cutting out on the dgl-4500 even though I've increased my vonage setting to max bandwidth for the line. When I get back on my feet the d-link gets the boot.

I have had my netgear for a week now and not one reset, faster and more stable than the dlink...no comparison in my opinion. I was a DLINK fan until the DGL-4500 because the DGL-4300 was the best router I have ever owned.....sad to see them go downhill.

Well most obvious would be no more wireless errors, no more resetting the router every other day, my signal strength went from 60 something in my living room to 90. I had the dgl-4500 A2 with the newest firmware and it was a pile of junk. I was disappointed because the DGL-4300 I had before that was outstanding.....
How naive. Netgear uses the same ODMs as dlink. Just a different shape and color box.
In a couple of weeks the posts calling netgear a pos will begin.

Well, at the very least the Netgear group is acting a little faster in response to the issues that have cropped up already, regarding the NAS lockups.

What NAS lockup issues are you referring to? I have two different NAS boxes hooked up without issues.

There have been reported lock ups as the drive is scanned for media. Netgear has already stated that the issue will be addressed in the next firmware release. Some folks, like yourself, have had no issues at all. Also, this issue only affects usb connected storage devices, not standalone NAS boxes connected via ethernet.

Actually it's pretty naive of you to think that the Netgear is just a different shape and color box. The implementation is clearly different because it's obvious to anyone who has used both that there is quite a difference between the two.

Check out the in depth reviews and then get back to us about them being the same.

D-Link uses the same OEM as Trendnet and a bunch of other lesser known companies, but not Netgear.

Such as???

Reviews are written by company shills, or clueless users. Not of much use.
Netgear is just another outsourced branding company with little added value.

And you wouldn't count yourself as one of those clueless users making claims about two companies using the same OEM when you don't actually know which OEMs they use?

Speed, reliability, wireless range.

LOL. Do you work for Linksys or have you had a prior bad experience with Netgear? You can be honest here. We have all had bad experiences with companies. I've had several bad experiences with Netgear yet I still admit that the WNDR3700 is a great product.

Those "clueless" users as you think of them are the ones actually USING the product. If they have a bad experience with it, they WILL tell people about it.

So you go on with your notions about Netgear and I'll continue to enjoy my WNDR3700.

Just leaving now to pick up my wndr3700 , it is at the PO . Can't wait to set it up and see how much more range and signal strength than my wrt 600n I get . Plus after 2 years the 600 is dropping signal every minute and the 5 ghz channel shuts off once a day , needs reboot to get it working again .
This will be my 3rd netgear , gave up on netgear after the wrg 624 overheated and crapped out , wrg 614 v-0 still going strong though , hope the 3700 is going to last .

None of the companies use the same OEM. There is a pool from which the branding companies usually select.

As long as you use only a subset of the advertised features, the router may be adequate for your application.
So would be DLink, Airlink, Linksys, Trendnet, Belkin.......

Seems to work well , strong signal throughout the house , works where the wrt 600 didn't . Just hope it will last and not start dropping signal in 2 years .
download speeds are up as well , uploads to nas have gone up as well . So far this router blows away all the others I have .
