Re: I just dropped... Talk about swiss cheese. I was planning on looking into Sprint due to their great prices, but my house, and the surrounding 5 mile radius is in a roaming area, and the surrounding areas have excellent coverage. That blows. |

| reply to chlen That's what is odd about it.
I drove from Vegas along I-15 to LA, and I never lost service once. I had better service out in the middle of nowhere, than I did in my house. Then, I hit Orange County and there went my service. I think the service is great when it worked, Sprint's 3G network is fast as hell.
Truth to told, I also missed my iPhone, so that was another decision factor. The Pre is great, but it has a long ways to go to catch up with the iPhone. My screen had a dead pixel that was driving me bonkers, the overall feel of the sliding mechanism felt rather cheap and had some "give", and the buttons were too small for my big hands. The lack of an auto-correct feature and some obvious website cashing errors that required you to close the browser and re-open left something to be desired as well. Add that in with the fact that iTunes wouldn't recognize my Pre, so I was never able to upload music to it. I could have gotten unlucky I suppose. -- "If it can't be done with brains, it can't be done with hours" - Clarence "Kelly" Johnson |

I hear poor things about Sprint out west, however you would be hard pressed to find a better provider in the NE, particularly NY. ATT is not very good and TMobile has no real presence, just a resell of the ATT network. Sprint roams free (data roaming too) on VZ network if needed and VZ is marginally better and costs a lot more and has worse phones with locked down software.
The big plus of ATT (formerly Cell One up here) is that it used to work in remote areas of the state and VT which was very useful for hiking, skiing, etc, however Sprint and VZ have surpassed them a long time ago.
I do find the sliding mechanism on the Pre a bit cheap, however I am constantly amazed at how well the OS performs and how great the batt life has gotten (I keep Wifi on all the time now and get 2 days under heavy use with 15 min updates on 3 email accounts). I actually found the Pre easier to sync with Itunes then an Ipod. Make playlist plug in, sync.
edit- Customer service went from awful, worst to the best. I live in a brick building surround bu large brick buildings, old and solid. Everyone has bad reception in my house. Sprint sent me a free Airave and free service when I called with dropped calls in my house problem. FWIW call/sound quality on Airave is better then any service I have ever had, bet it POTS, or VOIP.

Yes, in many cases Sprint's data roaming agreements will allow these features to work, especially if you are just browsing the internet.

If you think Verizon's data coverage rocks, but Sprint's sucks...that would be quite odd considering their roaming agreement. |

Yes, but you can't force the Pre to roam, so it would just barely hang on to the Sprint network instead of switching over to Verizon. -- "If it can't be done with brains, it can't be done with hours" - Clarence "Kelly" Johnson |

jmn1207Premium join:2000-07-19 Ashburn, VA | Sprint took away the option to force roaming on all of their new phones, which is a bit of bummer. The problem you are having sounds device specific, as both my BB Tour and Curve will take the strongest signal. It's still a problem when I am in an area that has nearly equal signal strengths, as the phone will switch from one to the other, causing all types of problems, as you could expect. It happens with less frequency with my Tour than it did with my Curve, so perhaps the newer firmware is better at handling these types of situations? |

 | reply to Time you have to go to dial pad, pull down the tab( top left) and enable roaming on pre. By default data roaming is disabled. hope it helps. |
