Update: The site is on the DNS Blacklist.

According to Mcafee, the website pcflank.com was a bad site infected with trogans. One of their scanners, pcflank.com/scanner1s.htm, as a exploit.

It had some high concern trogans like Ghost and breakout-en and copycat. All exe files. See »www.siteadvisor.com/sites/pcflan···wnloads/

See »www.siteadvisor.com/sites/pcflan···=5.1.3.0

Good riddance. The site is Russian:

Re: What happened to the PC security site "PC Flank"?

Randy and I "met" by arguing.. but we quickly warmed up and he was a great guy to chat with. He even had me trying and using Norton products for awhile. LOL.. Boy, WAS HE defensive about Symantec and Norton. ...

Oh well, I know why he left DSL'r's too and can't say I blame him. Haven't heard from him in years. I hope he's alive and okay... Nice, nice guy...

Maybe he changed his onscreen name and is now here as someone else

It's been down for a couple of months now - possibly more.

Wasn't Randy Bell a moderator on the PCFlank forums? What happened to him? He hasn't been on here for years. Such a knowledgable person.

Man, I haven't thought about Randy in years! He was a good guy, but I believe he had a beef with the mods here, which is why he hasn't been back in 5 years. Wow, 5 years, if nothing else, that guy has principles.

Sounds like the PCFlank site was abandoned and then taken over by malware authors?

Randy willfully left dslr and has been active on Wilders and the Trojan Hunter site as Jrb2 See Profile stated. Not sure I'd call quitting and staying away because of a disagreement "principles'. He was a very nice guy, but extremely stubborn and could get quite heated.

Oh, good point! That happened on the At Guard website that was set up to see if the product could be rejuvenated. The effort was abandoned, but the website was left up. Someone has cracked the admin account and it's now used to send out all sorts of crap, some of which most of us definitely do not care to have on our home PCs under any circumstances.

It wasn't a "disagreement" and he didn't leave "willfully" although some thought that was the case.

I do agree though that he could be quite stubborn and had quite a temper some times (but so did I). But other times, he was one of the sweetest guys I've ever known. He and I tended to fight and then makeup and then do it all over again.

He taught me all about how to handle viruses safely and that was a great gift.

Okay, based on that, I would say check with the senior mods at those two forums (preferably privately) and try to locate him.
I'm not sure who you were saying that to but I was just wondering about him rather than wanting to contact him.

I remember his posts and I remember him as being a very helpful and knowledgable person (I can't say I remember any of the more heated discussions though) and was curious as to why he disappeared; thankfully it doesn't sound like it was due to ill-health.

If it was his choice to leave then that is fair enough and if he would prefer the reason to be kept quiet I'm certain that those who know will respect his wishes.

Normally, I'd just offer to stuff him in my suitcase and bring him over with me, but I'm already close to the weight limit (and Randy probably wouldn't appreciate the thought anyway).

Since I used one of their security scanners a couple of weeks ago, the site can't have been down for months.
I run Xenu's link checker (»home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html ) on my Mozilla's SeaMonkey v1.x's bookmarks once a month (end/beginning of it) and I don't recall seeing it not connecting in its recent reports. Since it is probably gone forever, I will remove it from my bookmarks. If it ever comes back, then please kindly tell us!

I just checked the site- it is presently up (no clue as to how long this will last).

As to how safe the site is, I just ran the Stealth Test, and, so far as I can tell, no malware was loaded onto my computer. Can't speak for the other tests they offer.
