It is free, but what about when I want to use advanced features like internet? Will those still work?

Yes, in many cases Sprint's data roaming agreements will allow these features to work, especially if you are just browsing the internet.

If you think Verizon's data coverage rocks, but Sprint's sucks...that would be quite odd considering their roaming agreement.
