[Internet] Rural logcabin user seeks DSLAM. Object:Matrimony

It's 2009 now! grrr...!
I live in the deep woods of south-west Quebec.
About 10 years ago, a Bell phone technician who was installing fiber at the company where I worked gave me the glad news : "Yep! You and everybody in this area will have high speed by 2001! EVERYBODY! "
Hmmnn.. I think this was just before John Roth took his money and ran...

Anyhow- Bell have pulled Fiber-optic to within a Km of my house, but it just seems to terminate in one of those big black cylinders up on the pole.
And just 2Km away from me there's a big brown telecom box with lots of fan noises coming out of it- I suppose this is where the digital gets split up into our analog phone lines.
Needless to say, I am still now using an old modem that does 40KBs or so, when raccoons aren't dancing on the old copper wire in my woods.
Actually, the "last mile" of copper is mostly buried underground. I believe its an historical artifact from the 1950s.
When it rains, the line degrades; I'm lucky to get 33KBs

So:

What strings can I pull to get Bell to install a small DSLAM in that big brown box?
Surely a small DSLAM does not require THAT much air-conditioning!
Hell, I'd pay for it myself! I have seen 'em on Ebay for $900 !
Barring that, what would it take (and cost)to get a Km of fiber right to my house? And I'd buy my OWN damn RSLAM!

Further to the above rant, see my: 1996 rant

1996, for Pete's sake! Nothing has changed since (except Bell no longer uses that boutique bag)

- Oh I forget to add: There is a 900MHz wi-fi service (ISP: www.targo.ca) available on a church steeple just 20 feet from that Bell Box. But NOT connected to it- they apparently link back to Videotron instead.
Cost: $50 /mo plus $400 install fee.
But I figure I deserve fiber!

900Mbps?!!! Must be a hell of a service provider. No way fiber is going to touch that

Ya ya... OK- so I corrected it. Thanx.

Grrr... I get so worked up when I think of my situation that I become incoherent and start sputtering GHz's, MBs's, Nanaosecs all over the place!

Urban main city user seeks dslam.
Object: ME.

It's 2009 now! GRRRR! I have the same sync speed as I did a decade ago.

Seriously... you're rural and want broadband... you obviously understand why they are taking forever... YOU ARE RURAL. There are people in the middle of the main cities who cannot sync @ the demarc point. Even though there's a CO probably a rock's throw away from there house. At least I have to go like 5km to get to a CO. How these people dont get a sync... Got me.

If that church is connected via Videotron, have you considered cable internet? Or paying to have fibre laid to somewhere that you can get decent connectivity?

It's ULTIMATELY connected to Vidotron, about 6 wifi links back.
The various wi-fi points are simply repeaters, much like chained bridges or routers.
Which is, I suppose, what they are.
There is NO cable out in most rural neigbourhoods- I suspect it's cheaper to lay fiber than copper Co-ax.
