I only think that LAN/gaming centers only can manage in areas which aren't as upscale. If people can't afford an HDTV/console or pc, they will be more likely to go to a lan center to enjoy it for only part of the time. Because they only offer people what they can easily do in their basements now. In order for something like that to be attractive it needs to have more. People that can afford to pay to sit and play games probably have an equal environment at home (with the abundance of software like Ventrilo now, you have the majority of the social aspects as well). It is a very small segment you are aiming for.

Now if you did something like mixing the competitive gaming with gambling against each other (local laws willing), you'd draw massive groups of competitors I'd assume. Make your money by taking a % of the pot, you just being the middle man -- making sure no cheating takes place.

This was the one i went to when i lived in illinois, and has been around for 14 years and still going strong, They have it set up similar to what you have described, similar to your "premium" member idea they have game "cards" paying for bulk for an amount of time and save $3-$4 per hour. All we got is a PC supply shop that is owned by old people and ran by idiots that charge outrageous prices.

Only thing I can think of other than what you listed would be to make the rooms "different" would be like a odd painted color on the wall along with some black lights or something of that nature. Possibly even a payphone or something also, for those that don't have a cellphone, and they want to call their buddies over.

Have the "gaming center" then a bar like table with comfortable stools for the concession area, or a pop machine outside by the door or inside.

lol those are my ideas..nothing much but its what I would add to your list, (I never been to a lan party) but its what I would find to be cool.

Maybe have a interent connection also? So gamers can play on the "outside" so you can double the amount of players? I am still doing tons of research and purchasing all that we need. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on what they would like to see in a LANcenter and if they like to see a really good one opening up in NOVA.

We want our deadline to be by the First of August.

Here are just a few specs we have:

-Large desktop space for custom mousepads and plenty of elbow space.
-22'' LCD monitors
-Two private rooms for competitive scrims, matches, tourneys, and Bootcamps.
-3 plasma TVs with xbox and ps3 games.
-Many Competitive events.
-Pricing may range from 2/hr for premium members to 6/hr for regular members.
-Snacks, chips and other essentials.
-Raffles every week for cash and gift prizes.
-tournaments ranging from FPS games to RTS. For example: CS, tf2, L4D, DOTA, SC.

we do not plan on failing, Northern VA needs something like this. I am sick of all the Korean owned pc places that don't do competitions or events. The owners of this place don't care for the customers, they just want their money. Don't get me wrong I do too, but I think giving alot back would be a great thing. I do miss all the LAN events and competitions that I was involved with in this area. There is no LAN place that you can do that.

I plan on changing that completely. So advice and ideas are more then welcome.

Please leave me alot of feedback in regards to what I have already put together and what you all do not like about other lan centers, what you wish to see different.

My plan would be to make this place a much older atmosphere. I dont want to run a daycare that C3 is running.

I plan on getting the 15 or 16+ year old people in the door with organized teams or even just the casual gamer who wants to play. I just miss the competitions around here, I would love to bring it back. I will hopefully have two private rooms where a team can scrim,practice, or even do bootcamps.
