Distance limits for 6Mbps

So it looks like my Elite order got downgraded to Pro because I am about 500 feet outside the distance limit.

I was just wondering if that's a hard limit or if there is any chance I could be upgraded after watching the line quality for a while?

My username is cwb71. Thanks!

On AT&T loops, the limits are a hard limit.

On Fusion loops, we have more flexibility, and will do our best to deliver a little more if we can.

If you qualify for fusion, I highly recommend it. »www.sonic.net/sales/fusion/broadband/

The 1 megabit upstream makes it far superior.

Thanks for the recommendation, billern. It is definitely more expensive if you want to maintain a POTS line (and I do), so I'd be reluctant to sign up unless the speed increase could be guaranteed before the install.

Maybe Dane could chime in with some info on how the pre-qualification process works, and perhaps more importantly whether one can leave a 12 month contract to switch to Fusion... Otherwise it'd have to wait a year in any case.

I don't really know about waiving the cancellation fee but, from what I've seen and heard, I think sonic.net tries to work with people on this.

The beauty of Fusion that allowed me to switch my parents over is that they run it over a different copper pair from the one you use for phone and your current DSL. That allows them to hook up the Fusion connection before disconnecting the DSL. That allowed me to switch over my parents with no downtime. We didn't cancel the Sonic.net DSL until the Fusion was working. You could use that to make sure the line speed is good enough before canceling and committing to the change.

Good luck with whatever you chose!

For residential service, there are no contracts for any products.

As for POTS - you'll see POTS available on Fusion pretty soon, and it will result in discounting of about $10 monthly, bringing it down to pricing like line shared with AT&T voice.

I hear that the planned sonic.net quadruple play includes your choice of pool service or mow and blow. :-D
