Im moving to Bayonne and decided on OOL as our ISP with the 30/4 package. I looked and didnt see any complaints in here but was wondering if anyone had any in the area. |

| I am on the east side of Bayonne and have had all three cablevision services for a number of years. No major problems. The only outage I had was one time when one of their techs did a disconnect on the house across the street that got Dish and disconnected mine by mistake. Wish it was cheaper and had more HD but then who doesn't. Was going to try FIOS when it became available last year but the cost was about the same for what I needed and they don't have MSG HD, as a rabid Ranger fan that killed it as far as I was concerned. -- THE ROAD: Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9 |

| reply to margaf77 i also don't have any problems with my connections. but i would go for FIOS even if i had to pay the same or a few bucks more but that is me. unfortunately, fios isn't available to me yet. i don't like cablevision's slow boxes and the picture quality, from what i've seen compared to FIOS and even directv is less when compared to these two. |

Thanks for the info, how fast were they back to fix the mistake?
Im more concerned with the internet as we arent getting any other services.

TV was a ripoff so I we werent going to get it and just download everything we watch, which isnt much.
I planned on working the system a bit, I got a 12month promo rate on the 30/4 and if it doesnt meet or exceed my requirements I was going to switch to FIOS. |

| I did not notice until that evening and they came the next morning. The internet has been rock solid for me. If you go to the speed test page and look for results in Bayonne you'll see I have always had a good connection. -- THE ROAD: Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9 |

1 edit | reply to margaf77 How can you question whether you made the right move or not? You have no minimum commitment.. If you're not happy, you cancel and go somewhere else.. Its not like you're going to be stuck with it for a year or two if it turns out that it sucks for you.. And there was probably $0 out of pocket expense to get it. |

| reply to margaf77 One big advantage that CV has is that Tech Support is local and a tech will almost always be sent out the next day - even on Sunday. Verizon uses call centers in India and will send a tech out within 5 days not including Sunday. I switched from verizon to CV a few months ago with the triple play and have no regrets. The service is excellent. |

I've had Comcrap, Time Warner and Cablevision and out of the 3, Cablevision is the next best thing if you can't get Fios. If CV is not available, then DirecTV with a Verizon DSL connection will do. Anything but Comcrap.
My only gripe with CV right now is the deteroriating picture quality on the HD channels. Seems they're cramming too much and the bitrates are going down. It's starting to remind me of the HD Lite syndrome I had when I first got DirecTV a few years back. DirecTV has sure changed since those days. With their new bird up and MPEG-4 recievers, now their quality is pretty much on par with Fios. Excellent
I'm unaware of the path that cable will go in but I'm hoping that they will adopt MPEG-4 recievers and implement SDV much to the hatred of Tivo users. But bandwidth needs to freed up to provide higher bitrates and for better PQ and more reliable consistent internet connection speeds.
Well listen man, as long as you get the Boost package, you'll be just fine. Regular OOL tends to slow down and even a few folks on Boost have been complaining as of late but Boost is better and close to what you'll get an on fios connection. |

| reply to margaf77 Definitely the right move - lowest risk option. There is no contract so if it does not work out, you can always make a change and you would be no worse off (other than a little time). -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. Also the HDTV one has and how it is calibrated will make a difference. I know from my own experience with Pioneer plasmas at my own place and my parent's house, Directv has better HD picture than Cablevision, wasn't always that way prior to MPEG4 on Directv. Now with FIOS at my place, it kicks Directv in the butt. My advice, go with whatever deal is best for you and enjoy. Cablevision doesn't have contracts, which is a big advantage. |

| Well thats good to know. I hope CV is addressing the issues like the pixellation, pauses, break ups, etc.
Maybe CV intentionally makes sure the quality is at it's best in certain markets where they know fios is competition. I'm no consipracy theorist but who knows. Maybe things are improving but as far as here in Hudson County and my buddies place in the Bronx, HD just hasn't been the same for quite some time. I noticed quite a difference when my friend switched from CV to DirecTV.
I seen fios at a friends on Staten Island. It pretty much looked identical to DirecTV. Maybe marginally better but then again it could have been the way he had his set calliberated. |

| reply to margaf77 Not that it matters too much, but I just wanted to make the OP aware the Boost is actually 30/5, not 30/4. That 1 mbps makes a big difference when we're talking about upload
I'm a phone rep (OOL/OV) for CV, and never realized that Verizon outsourced tech support. All CV reps, even those in call centers, are local, with the majority of us being in CV service areas. For all of CV's faults, they do their best to keep everything local. They pay me over $23/hr to answer the same phone calls that someone in India/Philippines would answer for half as much. |

No idea where you get the outsource to India/Phillipines from, but you don't have the service so instead you make assumptions about it. |

Now I'm going to make an assumption... you have called FIOS tech support a lot? Whats wrong with FIOS that you call so many times for help? Secondly, you didnt read the whole topic to see that India was suggested by someone else prior. |

Had to have tech reset ONT to release IP. At previous home, over 4 years ago now, lightning fried PSU for ONT and numerous other electronics in house while we were on vacation. That has been it, besides calling for speed upgrades. All answered by someone in the USA. |

Are they still doing the whole being a temp forever thing they were doing back when I was there? |
