Re: Healthcare Reform--- the REAL agenda

I don't remember hearing that medicare is being disbanded. And being as Republican as you are, you must be completely against medicare as it is purely socialism.

Yep so it social security and unemployment. Yet if he lost his job he'd file for unemployment and foodstamps. When he gets old enough for SS he'll cash that check. And when he's old enough for medicare he'll use it. There's word for people that say one thing then do the opposite.

See someone that truly believes that ther should be any of this so called socialism stuff would not apply for unemploment or fod stamps would return or burn that SS check and not use medicare.

What I find really ironic is that all these aniti-government healthcare people in the Congress get their health care from the Governemnt. WHY? Why don't these people have private plans if government run health care is so god awlful. See people really need to THINK about these things.

A friend of a friend is a virulent Republican. Talks in swaggering, dismissive tones. Reassuring himself of his profound rightness.

Well, he went all in during the real-estate bubble. Rental houses, an apartment complex. Living large.

Now he's filing bankruptcy and whining about how the Republicans changed bankruptcy laws 4-5 years ago and he's going to be stuck with some things.

It's all about who's ox is being gored. All the principled rhetoric is just a mask. Like using cosmetic to cover a blemish.

Don't you just love it? I hope he doesn't use the post office! If any form of socialism is such a failure why didn't it miserably fail and become disbanded long ago?
Seems that being Republican these days means you're against anything you can't make money off of. Even now no one is asking the right questions, such as why does health care cost as much as it does, what are the profit margins, and go from there. Unfettered capitalism worked well for the banking industry, why not health care

When public fluoridation of water was debated 50 years ago there were people screaming "Socialism!"

When the medical association was given greater control over the industry 80-100 years ago there were people screaming "Socialism!"

If universal health care passed today, in 30 years nobody would call it "socialism." It would just be accepted as a hallmark of civil society (like fluoridated water and the AMA having control of medical standards at the expense of competition).

Social Security is NOT socialism.

The government TAKES that money from me, with the promise to pay it back to me later, possibly with interest, possibly without, possibly NEVER if I die tomorrow.

Naa, Social Security is more like a Ponzi scheme than anything else.

Unemployment is NOT socialism. It's insurance. If you don't believe me, believe the Department of Labor.

Both you and your employer pay into your state's unemployment insurance program. You have to work a certain number of hours in a given period to be eligible to receive it. I've been working since I was 14, and I've never collected a dime from either program, and chances are I won't until I'm 65.

Chances are I'll never see the money I paid into Social Security, but that's not socialism if I collect it. IT'S MY MONEY I paid in all my life. I think I'm going to want MY money back. So you're damn skippy I'll collect it.

Hey, go ahead and believe the government has your best interests in mind. They don't. I'll roll the dice with my insurance company 8 days a week before I go that route.

Funny thing is, the bulk of people feel the same way I do. How can the President stand there and tell me I can keep my current plan when he hadn't even read the bill (all 5 of them!). Why does it have to be 1,000 pages? Why the big rush? Why NOW NOW NOW?

People know when something smells "fishy" to quote a certain press secretary. Next thing you know, you've got an e-mail address to snitch out dissenting voices being put out buy the White House, and the Speaker of the House telling people in an OP-ED piece in USA Today that to dissent is "un American".

Holy shit people, if Bush had been doing this stuff, you would've shoved a hot poker up his ass. Where's the intellectual honesty?

A Ponzi scheme is, technically, an investment. Social Security never claimed to be an investment. It was always depicted as "insurance."

When I buy home or auto insurance I understand that I will probably pay more in premiums than I receive in benefits. I also know that the insurance company's ability to pay a claim is based upon other policy holders paying their premiums.

That's the nature of insurance.

N3OGH, well, I have started the slow process of retrieving my SS pay ins. Next year I start getting some return on my Medicare pay ins, maybe, if there is anything left after obama gets down with medical care. I have a real issue with trusting the administration.

Wow, you've just recited complete and utter FUD. All you have to do is google the topics to find out what the fuss was all about, and what the truth is. Really, it's not hard. It takes literally less than 5 minutes.

But your distrust of the government is so great, that I will simply post this wonderful poster. I highly recommend you look at and read it:

Talk about a canned, Googled response.

Just because something is "regulated" does not mean is socialistic.

Fud? Sure. But good FUD.

A lot of people FEAR the UNCERTAINTY of the Federal government taking over 1/7th of the economy, and DOUBT they can get it right....
