| Your stats do not look too good at all. A downstream attenuation of 63.5dB on DSL lines indicates a very long line which is pushing you to the absolute limit for DSL (especially Frontier's 1Mbps package). Do your speeds fluctuate whenever you restart your modem? Also if you have telephone service with Frontier, do you get static or buzzing on your line? Also, have you ever plugged in your modem directly into the gray NID that should be found on the side of your home and checked out the stats there? -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| reply to webfeet69 Are these stats ok? Could I move to fast mode? And Sometimes I see my DS SNR go all the way down to like 3 but the speed tests still give me 3 mbps and when I'm surfing it's evident the speed is still there. So what's giving me a low 3 reading when you know dsl doesn't even sync below 8 and I'm still pulling 3 mbps? Also where would I Check for fast/interleaved mode? Thanks.

1 edit | For you to check to see if you are in Fast Packet mode or Interleaved mode, you would need to check out your modem's System log, specifically where it shows the DSL syncing. You'll see something such as Fast:G.DMT if your line were to be on Fast Packet mode. If it doesn't show that, you're most likely on Interleaved. You can post it up here if you want to be sure though. Otherwise, your line looks good. Nice and low attenuation with some decent SNR.
For the SNR dipping, anything between you and the DSLAM could be simply putting noise on the line. Can be anything from radio towers to the electrical grid, or perhaps even satellite receivers on the phone line. Unless it is causing the line to resync I wouldn't be too worried. My attenuation and line is much longer than yours, however due to the good condition my line is in despite the storms and everything else it's had to go through for 2 miles from my home to the remote, the line maintains an SNR of 24dB downstream, and 18dB upstream with an attenuation of 42dB downstream, and 20.5dB upstream. Line is on Fast Packet mode, G.DMT (Standard ADSL) and transmit power is 7.8 downstream, 6.0 upstream. Even with stats like these, I do in fact see my SNR tank into the 3-4dB mark and then suddenly shoot up, but that has never re-synced my modem and normally when that happens, I'm gaming or pulling down some big data. Doesn't affect the line one bit. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| The only thing you could really do is run a dedicated CAT5 wire from your modem to your NID, and then use a POTS/DSL splitter at the NID to split off the DSL. That would at least make sure that the DSL is least interfered by cabling in your home, as well as devices. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| Well it does depend. Category 5 cabling is typically twisted pair 24 aWg cabling. If your phone cable is what I mentioned or it has a thicker gauge, that wouldn't matter. Twisted pair is suggested though. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |
