I just had comcast digital voice installed this last weekend. I had my own SB6120 hooked up before the tech. switched it for the SBV5220.
My question is. Can I use the SBV5220 for voice only and use my SB6120 for HSI? |

I personally did the same with my setup. I have a Moto SB5100 for HSI (Rock solid for almost 6 years) and an Arris 502G for phone only. Works great like that.
I'll be doing the same when I get Docsis 3 and a 6120. Unless I can get the new Arris 702G which is the Docsis 3 version of the Arris modem I have now that does both phone and HSI without the speed problems others have seen when using only the 502G for both. |

| Thanks for the info.
I'm gonna put a splitter in place tonight and try using my SB6120 for HSI. Maybe the online provisioning system will do this but I'll probably have to call Comcast phone support to have the SB6120 provisioned for HSI while leaving the SBV5220 provisioned for digital voice. |

Yes. Your second option is much more likely. Though »/useremail/u/1609731 could probably help you a lot quicker.
Good luck. Be sure to come back and post the results |

That will probably work, but to avoid problem what are your signal levels like right now. A splitter will drop the downstream at least 3.5dB and raise the upstream by the same. you don't want to push either one outside the limits or you'll have poor to no connection |

What is the upstream on your emta now? You will have to call in to add the stand alone modem to your account and remove HSI from the emta. -- Tech at the Beach. I speek for myself, not my employer. |

| reply to jstreetman That's actually a satellite splitter (and EXPENSIVE!!!) but it MIGHT work ok (the wide freq. band can allow excess ingress/noise through) (you can test with that and if it seems to work pickup a 5-1000MHz from CC later on) It looks like you downstream will work but as beachintech said "what's the upstream show?" |

If your signal levels are okay, there is no reason you can't do it. You won't be able to provision the modem w/o calling Comast, the system won't let you have two modems provisioned at the same time. |

join:2001-06-16 Acworth, GA | reply to tshirt I'm at work now. I could remember the downstream and power level from the last time I looked but can't remember what the upstream was right now.
I may pick up a different splitter on the way home with the specs. you suggested. |

1 edit | reply to jstreetman UPDATE:
I put the splitter inline to the SBV5220 & SB6120.
Digital Voice = working HSI = working
My levels on the SB6120 are: Downstream SNR 35dB Power level -5dBmV Upstream Power level 39dBmV
On the SBV5220: Downstream SNR 35dB Power Level -6dBmV Upstream Power Level 37dBmV
Using the Monster Cable two-way splitter I have.
The Comcast office had a line that was almost out the front door |
