| [Speed Issues] Bittorrent - Worcester, MA area
Is anyone else in the area having trouble with Bittorrent?
I cannot get over a few Kb (if that) in transfer up or down when trying to use Bittorrent.
I know my router is set properly, and I also tried when directly plugged in to the cable modem to eliminate the router as a potential problem, but I get the same results.
A speed test returns 5Mb down and 500Kb up for http.
The same machine works fine in other places (work, friend's house, etc).
Is Charter throttling or blocking BT traffic?
Is there something I am missing? |

I ran the Glasnost test direct through my cable modem, with no router, and here is what I got:
Results for your host (68-xxx-xxx-xxx.dhcp.oxfr.ma.charter.com - 68.xxx.xxx.xxx):
Is BitTorrent traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled? The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol. There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP upload achieved at least 4 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved at most 5 Kbps.
Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10009) throttled? The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol. There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 3 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 10 Kbps.
Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled? There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all uploads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP upload on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 34 Kbps while a TCP upload on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 3 Kbps.
And here is my normal speed test:
Any idea why the speeds on the Glasnost test were so low, even though they say traffic is not being limited? |

| reply to forthekill Yes, Charter and the big name cable companies have new software that not even throttles your speed but also I and a few co-workers have received letters from their legal department that they would turn over our personal info to any company who requests it. In order to prove we are downloading illegal things. I no longer use bit torrent, limewire, and bearshare for that reason. Your safest bet is rapidshare. |

| reply to forthekill Well if I can't figure out what the issue is soon, I'll probably look into getting Verizon DSL instead. I really wish FIOS was available
Unless of course they have a similar issue... |
