@comcast.net | Sirius Orbiter Unit- acquiuring signal problem
Hello I have Sirius radio now for several years. I have an old Orbiter unit in the house that I use. For the past few hours I have had a "Acquiring Signal" on the unit. What causes this?? Any info would be great, also how do i fix this |

What do you have for an antenna? Is it on the roof or just on a windowsill or what?

| reply to CX it is a window sill- now when I power down and then power up it doesnt even say acquiring signal- it just says sirius- wont even go to the next screen. I also hear a slight humming noise.. ... Once, the noise went away and the music started, but then I got the "acquiring signal"--- But yes, I have a window antena |

| It's hard to say, but it sounds like you may have two separate problems.
1. If it won't get past the power up/self check, or sometimes it will and sometimes it won't, then your radio may be slowly dying regardless of signal issues, or you may have a loose power cord and the unit keeps rebooting itself.
2. The "acquiring signal" is exactly that...there's not enough signal for the radio to work with. If your antenna is on a window sill it may be simple matter of moving it outside. Sometimes placing it on the outside sill is enough. I've found that reception with window antennas will vary at different times of the year, perhaps due to the satellites' relationship to the earth at different seasons. Mast mounted home antennas run about $40 and are well worth it. I put one on my house few years ago and I get full signal at all times.

2 edits | reply to CX I have a MiRGE and a XMP3, the XM-portable works fine without an outside antenna (we have local XM Ground Repeaters)...now with the MiRGE.....I have that hooked up to an outside antenna located high atop my roof, so, SRI- reception isn't a problem on my MiRGE, unfortunately with SRI, you will almost always need to put your antenna outside (as SRI only has about 1,000 Ground Repeaters and XM has about 1,800) and they are only located in large Metro areas.......put your SRI antenna outside (with a clear view of the sky)...this should correct your reception problem with SRI -- AMD Phenom X3 8400 Triple-Core 2.1 GHz*6 GB* RAM*Windows Vista Ultimate(64-bit)SP2 |
