"Who didn't see this one coming?"... the politicians. Well maybe they politicians did, but did not want to upset their campaign contributions cart.
The problem is we all pay for the sins of our politicians. I wish it was easier than it is to track campaign contributions, lobbyist visits and legislative votes. Often the consequence of lobbying doesn't become clear until long after a legislator has voted. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."
