Too bad the hottest CMTSes can only pump out 16 channels up + 16 channels down at this point for DOCSIS (just checked Casa Systems' website yesterday). 640 Mbps each way may sound hot...until you realize that GPON is 2.488 Gbps down and 1.244 Gbps up. So, without bandwidth contention, you could run TWO 32-channel DOCSIS setups over one GPON node. This same GPON node serves at most 64 ustomers. The cable node? 250+. |
