Mergers still must pass muster at the Justice Dept, which has no tie-in to FCC rules. And the Justice Dept under the current administration will be less likely to approve big mergers. However, Comcast could still get easy approval to suck up small systems adjacent to their existing franchises without worrying the Justice Dept. With the possible exception of Cablevision I can't think of any other major cable companies that Comcast would want to swallow whole. Why would they want all of Time Warner Cable and they definitely don't want all of Charter. |
