Anyone from Des Moines or have experience driving though it?

Hey all. I'm headed back home and am driving from Cheyenne to Cleveland, I'll be on 80 the whole way and have one question.

Which is faster, taking I-80 through Des Moines or taking I-235?

They are basically the same mileage, but I am concerned about possible traffic problems.

edit: I think I answered my own question, I-80 looks to have less traffic, but I'll leave this thread up cause this forum needs some action!
Thanks!

Other than construction, I don't think either route is faster or slower. If it was me, I would just stay on 80. Since 235 goes through downtown, you stand the greater chance of a traffic situation.

I-80/35 is faster. 6 lanes and less interchanges... Plus you avoid downtown traffic.

When you get close to Davenport on I-80, you might consider taking the I-280 around the other side of the Quad-Cities. There is major construction on the I-80 and I-74 bridges across the Mississippi River.

Up until the past week or two, you couldn't even cross I-80 into Illinois as the east bound span was completely closed.

Honk and wave when you drive past Moline!

I've actually made my trip to Ohio already, and heading back tomorrow. I saw the construction on the way here, they had 1 lane open and since I was traveling on a Wednesday, traffic wasn't too bad. (Except for the cop that was ahead of me for half of Iowa, ugh I couldn't do more than 5 over...annoying!)

But taking I-80 over I-235 was way better, I think I'll stick with 80 over 280, but I'll see what traffic conditions are like.
