No, you are getting speedboost added.

Is Speedboost an application running on your pc?

Basically you get the first 10megs requested without cap. Then the cap slides in. After a period of time of no-activity the boost "resets." If that makes sense. No application needed.

Any idea when an actual speed increase will come for max users? I just don't see 20/2 being worth $30 more than 15/1.

Docsis 2.0 just isn't going to reliably do more. So that answer is, D3. I can't release the launch schedule on that yet but hopefully soon.

"Hopefully soon" sounds great to me, BAINCH.

This puts a smile on my face. I know it's the speed boost, but I like numbers like this.

Yes, the ICN is very nice, but they're definitely still throttling you. From a residential perspective, we'll see DL/UL ratios like that when/if there's fibre to your home and when/if bandwidth providers see value in high-rate uploads. Right now residential providers seem to have settled on a ~10:1 ratio as a general guideline for product offerings. I don't see that changing much until the bandwidth delivery technologies change or there's some technology that drives/demands more UL bandwidth for residential users.

Would 25 be reliable? I don't know the percentages of tiers, like 60% standard/vip, 30% intro, 10% max? Or am I way off? Is it possible that it may be reliable (for the time being) at 25/2.5? When you say hopefully soon can you comment if you are still looking at a time frame before the end of the year?

How about this? Not even their fast tier... 50/20 for that. This guy's is the 35/20, I assume they must have some type of speedboost on the upload side.

It isn't cut and dry but the closer we push the caps toward the overall max port speed, the more inconsistent the speeds will appear. I'd rather leave the caps at a reasonable number and enable additional bandwidth via PowerBoost.

Is anyone in Des Moines actually getting these speeds yet? I've reset my modem several times and tested several different ways of maxing out my bandwidth and it's obvious that I'm still capped at 10 Mbps (I have a VIP account). From what I'm seeing this is definitely not the case where the real world speeds don't live up to the cap, it's obvious that the traffic could go faster but hits a hard ceiling at 10 Mbps. I just called support and they first reset the modem from their end, and when that didn't change anything I power-cycled it for them once again, and still no change. I remoted into my inlaw's computer across town and it seems that they are in fact getting the new speed, getting consistently 15-20 Mbps (obviously powerboost is at work here).

Any ideas?

Edit: I have the motorola SBV5220 instead of the more common Arris modem, do you suppose they haven't got around to changing the provisioning/firmware for my modem yet?

Did you try removing the battery back up? and pushing the recessed "reset" button?

Do you really have to do both? I just hit the reset button, which is an incredible pita to do the way mine is set up.

The first few times I reset it I just used the web interface. The last time, I literally pulled the power cable and the battery out, then restored power. Still no difference after doing that. My in-law's modem currently has an uptime of 76 days, so it would seem possible that a modem reset isn't even necessary to get the increased speed.

I'm in Des Moines, IA and on VIP package. The upgraded service seems to be working just fine.

This is what I'm getting right now, and pretty much what I get all the time. It's always bumping up against the 10 Mbps ceiling, not bumping up against overuse in my neighborhood.

edit:
After rebooting my modem yet again:
