| Re: Third Party Newsproviders to continue... I get a 5GB GigaNews account bundled with my dialup ISP. The dialup ISP charges $5 per month for the tier I'm on (ten hours, e-mail via GApps, Usenet).
Giganews seems to be taking over the market at the moment, though they get spendy on the high end.

| Re: Third Party Newsproviders to continue... TOAST.net
I have had no problems at all with their dialup service. Tech support is nice too; they do logical things like look at your caller ID to assist in confirming your account info when you've forgotten your password (though that's not all they do).
Hey, I forget the password of the thing because I have to loan the account out to other people so it can't be one of my "important" passwords...

| | | | | Re: Third Party Newsproviders to continue... and Toast.net is one of the few last remaining ISPs still based in the USA. Toast.net is fully based and ran out of Toledo, Ohio. They were actually one of the smallest resellers of ATT that offered dry-line until ATT pulled it from them. | |

I have not checked lately but it may be down to mostly GigaNews and Highwinds (or Highwinds owned). Highwinds made a ton by handling a lot (most) of the ISPs News servers.

| | | | | | | Re: Third Party Newsproviders to continue... The major tier 1 Usenet providers include Giganews, Highwinds and Astraweb. Astraweb has grown quite a bit in the last year since offering $11 unlimited access. So much so that the industry appears to be very focused on value now.

It lists Usenet load by %. Looks like news-service.com is king (surprised me).

Not surprising given AmsIX is such a large peering centre

I don't go to Usenet forums, though GN is now retaining everything since around July of last year, and not throwing stuff out. Wonder why people aren't flocking to them as such...pricing?
