| The Web killed Usenet What killed Usenet is the narcissistic Internet culture. The internet culture is not about sharing information in a communal setting, , but about being seen and self. It started with the personal web page advanced to the blogs and evolved into social media like twitter and Facebook.
To create a Usenet group one had to go though a laborious process of proposal, charter, and finally a vote. Why bother with Usenet guidelines when one could have gone to Tripod or Geocities and have their own webpage. Once people realize one can get on the net on their own, the number Usenet users decreased. |
