2 edits | Weird upload problem
Is anyone out there on CableOne having trouble doing uploads tonight?
I can't seem to upload any photos at all and all speed tests seem to do fine on the downstream, but I get nothing on the upstream, or if the upstream test does succeed, it takes 2-3 minutes for it to start. To clarify things, I'm almost 100% sure I didn't hit the upload or download threshold today, according to the cableone bandwidth usage page anyway.
Web browsing seems to be edgy too.
But my cable modem stats look fine.
Downstream Freq/Power: 549.000 MHz 6 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio: 40 dB Modulation: QAM256 Upstream Freq/Power: 29.000 MHz 39 dBmV Channel Type: DOCSIS 1.x (TDMA) Symbol Rate: 2560 kSym/sec Modulation: QAM16
What could the problem be?
And yes, I've rebooted my router and tried other computers. I can remove it if needed but I'd like to avoid doing so at all costs until later tonight.
EDIT: I removed the router and went directly to the modem; no change in results...

| I'm getting anywhere from 90-65% QoS on VoIP test sites. My upload speeds are a little more consistent today, but no where near how they used to be.
Should I try getting CableOne to take a look at the problem? I have no other ISPs to go to other than paying nearly $80 per month for 1.5 mbps wireless access; DSL was very inconsistent and useless during summer storms due to high line attenuation.
Darn it, why does this forum have to be so inactive? -- ISP: CableOne 5 mbit/500 kbit |

Yeah, I'm hoping that's all it is. God forbid them making me go through AT&T's technical support run around if I need to call them.
It again, seems to have improved a bit but not by much. I'm getting anywhere from 31-71 kb/sec upstream. It used to always peg around 68-71 kb/sec.

2 edits | Ugh, so much for that. 2 days later upload is useless.
Again, download is fine.. upload is pure crap. Right now it's struggling to get past 5-7 kb/sec (most of the time, it does nothing.) What could be causing this?!
EDIT: Just in case anyone is interested, I called CableOne this morning and they did indeed notice that something was wrong; a tech is being sent out Tuesday to diagnose the situation.. or trade out the modem. I miss using the Motorola Surfboard... bah. Once again, speeds have improved but they keep going all over the place now. One second I'm uploading at 120 KB/Sec, way over my normal upload speeds, the next second I'm at 0 kb/sec. It makes no sense.

| One of the technical supervisors suspected that the modem was defective/problematic and/or there's another problem on the plant itself.
I just hope that the service is running cruddy again when the tech gets here, rather than the "Well, it's running fine so there's nothing I can do.." excuse. Since it seems to happen during the morning hours, I requested the visit to be between 8 am-12 pm this Tuesday.
I've read that upstream noise can cause lots of upload problems, even though my cable modem stats are well within range.
Though, when I called CableOne it was so bad it took me 30+ minutes just to pull up their localized speed test, which downloads at 5400-5500 kbps but uploads at 28 kbps or less (after 15-20 minutes of waiting...) -- ISP: CableOne 5 mbit/500 kbit |

1 edit | Tech just left; I told him it was working properly but that the technician on the phone that I talked to said the modem may need to be changed, but the techs analyzed my modem's stats and speeds finding no problems.
I'll give them kudos for being knowledgeable on what a ping is; I was actually expecting them to be clueless on networking terminology; way to go CableOne. They were quite professional and prompt.
I guess I'm not worried about the slow upload speed for now. God forbid me jinxing myself; I haven't had a slow upload problem for about 4 days or so and they only seem to happen in the morning hours..
