For the record, this has nothing really to do with GSM Vs. CDMA. Your signal is based on how well your area is equipped by your service provider.

Your area may be specifically covered by CDMA better than GSM, but it's just as easily flipped the opposite in other cities/areas etc. For instance, I can get a signal on the GSM network in my area practically anywhere. Including the long highways between the major cities. Whereas the CDMA network is horrible and does not cover nearly as well.

Putting all that aside, one of the key components is your phone. The brand/quality of your phone absolutely makes a difference in how well you pick up either signal regardless of coverage.
