[F@H] Considering Putting a PC Online Again

Hi All,
I finally got one of my pcs up and running a month or so ago. I have been running it to see how it runs. I am thinking of coming back to the fold. If so, I need to know what I need to fold again. It has been nearly 3 1/2 years since I folded.

Having contributed, I never consider you gone because you stopped.
Once a Helixer, always a Helixer

You still need to take care of you as #1.
I am sure all agree.

I've scaled back hugely here. (Not working now.)
I've never yet tried Boinc.
Plain old no-nonsense command line FAH for me.

What hardware are you considering.
Foldinator is mostly Core2 Quad now and flat out consumes ~ 108 Watts
(likely double/quadruple the bang for buck of older PCs.)

Just wondering if there were a budget for an OP slot ...
It might be the most gain least pain idea.

I've still got some older P4 1.33 GHz folders, so it doesn't take much...just pick up the new 6.xx console client and away you go!!

I would just be running my HTs. Can't afford a quad core.

I miss folding too. Gotta wait till I move again. I HATE moving! Hopefully I can get a place where I can setup all my old but still useful boxen. In a tiny bedroom that's too small and crowded to setup anything right now.

I'm thinking if you set up a no-nonsense console and didn't grab the big workunits, your older machine would work. I'll find the link to the instructions and put it in this post - it walks through the settings for the most recent console version.

EDIT: Found it! »Console client instructions for onDvine

Where it talks about workunit size...if you're really concerned, I bet you could set that to "small" workunits.

Which reminds me....I need to write this up as a FAQ or something...
