Thanks, but unsuccessful: link opens Silverlight page, then does nothing (for 6 minutes); tried Microsoft update, this does not show up.

Can you post a screen shot of the page you get. Just the upper 1/3. If you have Silverlight installed, you must remove it from your system, then restart your PC. Now go back to the page that NICK linked to. Then there is a block of text you must click. When I see your screen shot I can tell you which block of text to click.

when going to the website you will see the words "One moment, please, while the current Silver light installation status is determined"
that will be proceeded by a box which will say "update" in which you will be able to install
providing in INTERNET explorer you have the default security operations in place you shouldn't have any problem installing silver light

Thanks for trying to help. There is no "update" option on screen.
All earlier version of Silverlight were properly installed.
This is an XP SP3 box, IE8, with all updates.
I am quite happy with my 3.0.40723.0 version.

From your screen shot it looks like it never determined if you have Silverlight installed. Do you? I had a problem seeing the block of text you need to click, but it was able to determine that I had an out of date edition of Silverlight installed and it said which number it was. When I went to control panel and removed Silverlight, restarted my PC and then back to the web page, I got the block of text I needed to click to download the current Silverlight version.
If you currently have Silverlight, try uninstalling it. Go to the web page and see if you get a different result than before. If you can't figure out what to click, copy the top 1/2 of the screen and post it.

P.S. The support link takes you to free Silverlight support for install and uninstall questions, both Email and Voice.

Thanks, Richard. This is what happened: Uninstalled first the earlier Silverlight update. The ogre was unhappy of not being able to write a registry key (ConsentUpdate type); ignored it and it was done. Then, Silverlight itself was uninstalled. No problems. Restart. Go back to DSLreports, pull this post, go to the website, see the installation page - and everything works.
Nice and dandy, but why, oh why so complicated? A "simple" update?

Thanks for the update Nick!
Your directions worked perfectly under default IE8 settings for XP64.
