RPeters posted : WOW you guys! Slow down please. We are all on satellite internet either one way or two way. And yes there are good points and some bad points. I need to tell you I agree with Tom that the rural folks rely upon themselves to survive and they go to great lengths to stay united. If a 2 way system works for Ed then his entire neighborhood will run on two way. They will go to war over 2 way as long as it continues to treat them fairly. In my case, I have a one way system that has treated me very well for close to 4 years. I'm in the woods and they're in the woods. Pick up the phone....live person 24/7.... they know my name right away.....question answered or problem fixed. I therefore have zero issues with my one way and it only costs $40 a month.
My neighbor was with Starconnect and it was a shame what they did, but that's what happens when greed strikes out and hurts good people. But she made the call into the woods and the REAL people went to her side. You've heard of the guy that says "I got people" .... Well we got Skyfx. It may only be a one way system, but after what they did for her, I can guarantee that if you and I broke down at the same time, I would be the first to be back up. "I got people....I love em"
Cool the argument. No one will win.

anon posted : 2 way vs 1 way satellite in Canada

Here is the right answer

2 way is far too expensive for what it delivers. Doesn't matter how well it works, or not, even if it were at "advertised" bandwidth 100% of the time IT COSTS TOO MUCH! Period.

Suggesting that $80.00 or so dollars a month for 1.0 Mbps down and 128 Kbps up with a 200 mb DAILY cap is a good plan is simply silly. I have been using sat for a very long time and it does have a lot of problems; a whole variety of things can and do interfere with the signal. The real reason to go with one way is cost, at least you are not gouged quite as much. And in the long run it does appear to be more stable.
Bring out all the techie talk and facts and figures you want, in Canada two way is NOT COST EFFECTIVE for what is being delivered.

It's not even honest, NOTE: The federal Government defines Broadband as sustained 1.5 Mbps

Then, on top of that we need a new F11. I think you should wait if you still have dial-up. Give them a break save money in the end if they get it running again.
