| Rogers Rocket - My experience and some questions
I've just gotten my Rogers Rocket installed. So far, so good. First my initial impressions, and then some questions.
Hardware - I have the brand new Sony Ericsson MD400g. Lots of lights. GPS is cool. MicroSD slot too.
Speed - 4000 down/660 up. Almost identical to my TekSavvy DSL. It seems optimized for video or something because it is very laggy. I could probably watch decent video, but an ssh console is slow - go figure. I'm in Oshawa by the way.
Compatibility - I'm running MacOS X 10.5.7. I had a couple of failures but found workarounds. Everything is working - ssh, mail, Juniper VPN, MacFUSE sshfs.
Software - Typical crappy ISP software. My system log is filled with scary messages.
Questions: Is it possible to turn off the built-in installer disk image? It necessitates a two-step process to disconnect. I have to disconnect and then unmount the flash drive. I don't need the installer drive anymore.
Is is possible to have the MacOS X built-in modem connect script in Network Preferences make all the connections instead of Rogers' software? The Rogers installer created three new network devices. I can manually try to connect them and it gets all the way to ppp negotiation and then fails. It seems like if I just had the proper login IDs and other config strings I could avoid the Rogers software.
I'm going to try it out for real on the VPN tomorrow. Wish me luck! |
