Re: 3 weeks later...

The message of the "troll" is correct though; most people will buy for the name, then burden the network more, then complain when MMS isn't rolled out on time.

I have a first-gen iPhone. It's a solid product. The apps are pretty cool too though I can get the productivity apps I need on Windows Mobile as well. Or I can use an iTouch. No camera and no phone, but honestly I wouldn't dream of signing a two-year contract with AT&T just to use the iPhone. Not with AT&T's lousy network and ridiculously high prices ($40 for voice + $20 for messagin + $30 for internet + taxes and fees).

It seems that when someone uses the phrase "most people" it's to support an assumption. Unless you've asked "most people" it's at best a guess.

I didn't buy the iPhone because of the name. I bought it because I really like the device and what it does.

You may not dream of signing that contract, but I did - twice - without any reservation. I'd like to think that being an Engineer that I'm a pretty smart guy and wouldn't make a decision like that based purely on emotion.

At any rate, I disagree that the message of the "troll" is correct. The message of the "troll" (aside from several of his points being wrong) is that he doesn't like the device, therefore nobody should.

Maybe the AT&T network works well (2G and 3G) where you live. Maybe you don't need MMS...ever. Maybe you're fine with waiting for Apple to accept certain features into their product that have been in others for ages. Maybe you're fine paying $70+taxes+fees minimum for your cellular service.

More power to you...and "most people". Yes I'm making an assumption, however "most people" aren't here on DSLR. Anyone who's on here is a special case.

Again, I have the iPhone. Original, unlocked, on T-Mobile. Decent phone, no doubt. UI is the best out there at the moment. It's not a perfect phone though and as such I'm not paying $50 more per month than I am right now to get service with an iPhone on AT&T's network. The effective cost to me for the phone would be about $14-- over the life of the contract, versus what I'm paying now. Big difference, don't you think?
