You wouldn't say " I live on New Jersey" or "I live on Los Angeles" but here a colloquial expression has developed that say we live ON the Island......  Yeah, I've been saying it that way for as long as I can remember. A lot of other dumb shit we say too. Queue the email forward "You know you're from Long Island when..."
