MagicJack Inventor

What we are doing at magicJack is not representive of how AT&T tried to protect themselves.

Our first choice is for these conference services is to connect with us.We will complete calls to them in this manner. This is how we complete calls to the Bell Cos.

The second point is,we are not a Common Carrier. We do not know where our customers are when they make a call. They can be in Iowa or anywhere else.We don't have the same set of rules and Regs that AT&T ,Verizon are bound by.

Lastly, our customers have supported this move to a very large degree and understand why we did this.

Their is an easy cure to for these companies and they do not want to take the medicine. We will not be pressured into doing something stupid, when we are in the right and within all rules and regulations.

Again,we do not force anybody to do anything. They can use our free service or they can tell their present company to connect to us or they can do nothing.

Re: MagicJack Inventor

Dan Borislow, the millionaire inventory is using AOL to post anonymous messages defending his company?

...and the post shows aol.com as the network he's connecting from, so he actually is on the AOL network...and the only way to do that is to use AOL dial up.

This, sadly, explains a lot about the company

...also, not for nothing' but MagicJack's parent company is indeed a "common carrier" ...it's a CLEC and that's why their business model is different from Vonage et al. One of the reasons they can afford to give away service so cheap is because, as a CLEC, they get revenue from calls terminating on their network.

Re: MagicJack Inventor

Wow. I was just looking at possibly buying a MagicJack this weekend when at Best Buy. Am VERY glad I did not after reading this post and its indifferent (at best) attitude toward their customers.

Basically, what's being said is: Tough sh*t, we can do whatever we want whenever we want with or without notice or regard toward our paying customers... blah, blah, blah, not a common carrier so we can do whatever we want so you're SOL. That's quite a contemptible attitude toward the very folks who paid for a service and frankly its appalling.

This specific situation does stink, but for $20 for the year, i would still recommend the product.

But your customers are replacing their AT&T, Verizon, or other Common Carrier service with yours. You are setting their expectation that they should and can do that. Only later are they finding out that they can't call numbers you choose to block in favor of other services. If I want to call "Amy's Flowers" but you've cut a sweeter deal to complete calls with "Betty's Flowers," you will block calls to Amy and refer those callers to Betty. That's not right.

You're shoving this change down your customer's throats, probably in an attempt to force FreeConference to bargain with you.

No, they've not. There is massive complaining about this from among your customers.

There are a ton of lessons involving the saying, "the customer is always right." The moral of these lessons: You might be legally right, but your customers have their own needs and agendas.

Sounds like "forcing" to me.

No magic jack customer that pays $40 a year cares about this.
Magic Jack created their own conference call alternative before they blocked this: »www.freemagicconference.com/

The only reason they block the Iowa conference calls is if they did not then they would not be profitable. I am glad they blocked it to keep prices low and as I said they obviously are a good company being that they created a alternative so no one had any downtime for conference calls.

As a magic jack customer who gets $40 a year calls to and from the US when I travel anywhere in the world for work, I am in full support of them keeping prices low.

I guess you did not read the article.

They are blocking calls to free conference call not to force you to use something else. It is because calling free conference call service causes MJ to get charged by the minute.

MJ created their own free alternative »www.freemagicconference.com/ before blocking the scammer Iowa conference call number. So no one had any conference call down time.
You are still free to use other free conference or pay conference call numbers that are not in Iowa.

I have tried (and used) both Magic Jack and Skype, and I prefer Skype. For outbound and international calls... its VERY reliable ( I use it as a work phone for conf. line). Putting on my Windows Mobile phone, I can save a ton on international calling.

For $36/year, I have no issues.

I must say it's funny how the MJ inventor is using AOL and how horrible his typing skills are.

As far as the service, you get what you pay for people. Common. When I first heard about MJ, I definitely giggled on the inside. I thought to myself that there must be a catch and if it's too good to be true, it is. Well, guess I wasn't wrong.

Maybe because Dan figures that if you quit using magicjack, but still have the adware program installed, he can still pump ads to your pc.

I don't know if that is correct, but I wouldn't be surprised that Dan's mind works that way.

How much is Magic Jack paying you? You defend Magic Jack like you are an employee. Why would anyone want to use a service that blocks any calls? If I pay for a phone, no matter what the price, I expect to call whoever i want whenever i want.

I would have been out of alot of money if is was not for Magic Jack. I bet everyone on here bad mouthing them has never even used the service.
So you feel Magic Jack should allow you to call scammer phone numbers?

There's an awful, and I do mean that literally, swarm of FUD about MagicJack in this thread.

It's unwarranted.

MagicJack is incredibly inexpensive and incredibly reliable.

I expect MagicJack to maintain a sustainable business and if that means blocking a service that is unreasonably taking advantage, so be it.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to bank over $120.00 per month in savings by using MagicJack.
