Lol... Did you photoshop that? If not, damn, you are kicking butt out there in Oregon. I haven't been home for a couple of days so I'll be checking it after I get home today from work, and will be phoning Clear (again) to see if their "engineers" have done a damn thing.

Actually, I'll be relocating soon and will unfortunately have to cut the saga short as I'll be going to Austin, TX where clear is not at yet. Should have no problems canceling though due to a ticket still being open and having nothing resolved as of yet.

Re: Clear - Rediculous performance since day 1... Week 4

Well I just got off the phone with Clear. It seems that some adjustments were made with the tower in my area and they said that I should be noticing improvements with the speed. We'll see when I get home.

I got one burst of 8mbps while I was in the process of talking to the L2 tech just a second ago. Right after I was patched through, I started getting consistent 7mbps... Through the middle of the call, however, I was back down to 3...2... then a sub 1mbps. Yes, whatever they did helped but only enough to where someone who is none the wiser thinks it's fast. I refuse to be one of those sheep users lol...

And behold the results of the post RF engineer modifications to the tower...

Just for laughs... This is the server I got an 8mbps burst with two days ago... While on the phone with L2 tech support.

Hey at least it's not 1mbps

Actually not for me...I get over 2mbps while tethered to my phone (ATT), but you have the "unlimited" 5GB cap with that so you can't just use it however you want anyway.

Not sure if anyone else here was contacted but last week I gave a short rundown of my experience to Saul Hansell of the New York Times tech blog. Hopefully, it gets published as I believe it could possibly bring some attention to calling into question just how Clear's service has been since rollout.

But alas, there may be a resolution to my story after all. I just accepted a new job in Austin and will be moving back up there in about 3 weeks. Can anybody say U-verse?

I'm 10mi south of Amarillo. Using Clearwire >2years, always had five bars and generally good service. After they blocked access through the old network about three weeks ago, I had them ship the new modem. It gets no signal at all. Took both to the store in Amarillo. They said that the old network is completely shut down now, and that the new network probably wasn't going to reach this far. Gave me a different Clear modem which now gets one bar sometimes, usually no signal at all.

Two years of decent service, then an upgrade to Nothing. What is Clearwire thinking? Why did they shut down the old network when they know they're cutting off so many customers?

Mike

Same here, Mickey 79, in Abilene Texas. I used to have 5 lights with the old system. With the new WIMAX I get 2 lights max and poor connectivity. Clear Technical Support says I'm out of their usual range (which happens to be only 4.6 miles from the tower). This is crazy.

I call Tech Support very frequently because I'm determined to get my Clear system fixed. I suspect a tower problem. In fact, one technician told me the tower that I think I'm conneted to doesn't exist! Another tech told me it does, and that I'm connected to it. Another tech told me I'm connected to a tower over 7 miles away. WTF?

Bottom line: until I get a "clear" answer from Clear as to my connected tower, the range, and their advertised speeds, I'm going to pester them with calls so they understand that their system is not the perfect system they think it is.

Past few days has been OK, not acceptable, but just last night, it REALLY started crawling...

Keep in mind again, that I am getting 5 bars, excellent reception to the tower and have also from time to time gotten bursts of 8/9mbps. Clear, your service is pathetic. I'm sure in some major metro area, it's great but the attention to detail in this one case is laughable at best.

Been calling into tech support every couple of days and keep getting same old story. Talked to a guy yesterday that said I should be hearing back from them w/i 2 days. We'll see.

Well last night was about the last strike. Apparently, the credit I was due for the first month that I pre-paid did not get applied and received a collection call. Service is canceled and I'm waiting for the UPS labels to send all the equipment back.

One bright spot though, the cancellation process was not tough at all. I think they got the jist of my frustration and didn't stonewall that much. No issues with getting out of the 2 yr contract or getting credit back for the first month.
